WE BOUGHT A HOUSE!

IMG_9097

Um, yeah…in the midst of one of the craziest months of my life, we bought a house.

Closing date is Dec. 8. Yep, this upcoming Monday.

I haven’t really said too much about buying this house because we weren’t quite sure we were going to get it. But now it is confirmed, and there is no going back!

It’s just right around the block from our current place, so we aren’t moving away, just to a different location.

There are so many things that we love about this place. It’s on 3 lots of land, so we have lots of room to be outside. It is a four bedroom/finished basement, with two full baths. There is a fireplace that already has a wood stove insert. We don’t have to move far. There is room for us to both rent out rooms and expand our family in this home. It has so much character. This house is NOT a cookie cutter home, and it’s just squeaking by at “move-in ready”. The couple we are buying it from built it themselves…60 years ago. I’m pretty sure that they also decorated about 50 years ago…so their is browny-orange shag carpet and pink walls and baseboard wood walls and flowery drapes and baby blue/white kitchen cabinets.

Theo and I love that we get to take this house and turn it into our home. We have a very limited budget for remodeling a house, so we have been dreaming and researching about how we can do it very cheaply. We have a lot of hopes and dreams, and we know that the house won’t turn out like the ideal that we have pictured in our head. But, we can always try. And even if it doesn’t turn out like the ideal, it’s still a great house.

It’s been so fun to browse Pinterest and Re-stores and Home Depot and Lowes. We have a long list of projects including painting, tearing out carpet and sanding the hardwood floors, re-doing the basement so that we can rent it out as a separate apartment, repainting the kitchen cupboards, and hopefully putting up a fence as this house is along a busy road. This reno will probably take us YEARS….but Theo is the kind of person who loves having a project to do, so this is perfect for us.

I’m sure I’ll have lots and lots of before and after pictures to put up on this here blog…!

We appreciate your prayers as we make this huge transition. It is one that we are extremely excited about, but also sometimes asking ourselves…”What have we done??!!” Haha.

Here are a couple of pictures of the inside…

An upstairs bedroom (there are two upstairs bedroom, and two ground floor level bedrooms, then the basement).

The living room. The dining room is the room with the fan. And that weird half dividing wall? It’s gonna go. But check out that wood burning fire place!!! (And ignore the ghastly carpet and the wood siding walls!)

The kitchen. It’s a little bit on the small side, but I can work with it. But those baby blue/white cupboards? No way. The backsplash is actually red brick, which I love…but I can’t figure out what color cupboards I should get to match that! Any suggestions?

Closing date is Decemeber 8th, but we are still unsure about when we will move in. First of all, we have guests staying with us until the 11th. It seems kind of rude to move out of a house while we are hosting. Secondly, there is a lot of reno that needs to be done that might be easier to do BEFORE we move all our furniture and ourselves into the place. So we are still trying to determine what and when we will paint and do the floors. But either way, I’m sure we will be moving in sometime next week! I’ve been dying to decorate for Christmas, and I can’t wait to get moved in so we can buy a tree and get some holiday cheer going! =)

Exciting/Terrifying/Wonderful times!
