Skydive Greene County

On June 20th, Theo was able to cross a major bucket list item off…he went skydiving! It was his first time, and I promise you it will not be his last!

I wanted to take a whole post to highlight this experience and the place that we used for his first skydiving experience: Skydive Greene County.

From beginning to end, we LOVED the experience at Skydive Greene County. They were professional and organized, but at the same time laid back and relaxed- it made for a really fun experience!

In order to make an appointment, I simply had to call ahead of time and schedule a jump time. I had to make a deposit over the phone with my credit card ($25) and then all we had to do was show up at our appointment time! Theo had to wear closed toed shoes and bring a valid ID.

When we first arrived, Theo had to take a small training class- it was about 20 minutes long and mandatory. He then got fitted for his harness and it was almost jump time!

I believe that Skydive Greene County has several planes, but since it was a slow Wednesday afternoon, they only had one plane going up and down. There were a few other skydivers there, but Theo went first since he was a single jumper. He went up with the pilot and the instructor (who was actually the owner), and came down with the instructor.

While we were waiting, another woman jumped and right then a big storm cloud blew through. They jumped through the rain and the wind blew them way off the landing strip and they landed in a nearby soybean field. LOL. It wasn’t the best thing to watch right before skydiving, but the lady was perfectly fine and they still had a great and safe landing- just way off target haha.

Off they go! Theo said the scariest part was taking off in the plane because it was a bit rickety and the runway was just grass!

Once they went up, we had to wait a good 40-50 minutes before Theo jumped. During that time a HUGE, black cloud moved right over us. It downpour for about 5 minutes and then the sun came out again! Theo said that he was up above the clouds and it was so cool!

My kids did pretty well waiting, but they were starting to get really impatient about waiting for Daddy to jump out of an airplane. Tera was a little bit mad that she wasn’t allowed to go yet. We have shown her some videos of people skydiving and she is very convinced that she wants to go. We told her she can go for her 18th birthday- with Daddy. I will be staying on the ground, thank you very much. Theo says he has 14 years to change my mind.

Finally, we spotted Theo way up in the clouds! We couldn’t even spot him until his parachute opened, so I don’t have any pictures of the free fall, but he said it was INCREDIBLE.

Once the chute opened, it took a good 10 minutes for them to float down to the ground! They were directly above us and then the instructor swung them around the building and they came in and landed directly in front of us. It was a PERFECT landing!

I was pretty happy to see him safely to the ground!

Look at that landing!

Congrats, Theo! I am so proud of you and the incredibly stable and steady man you are for our family! I’m so glad that you got to get a little wild and jump out of an airplane for the first time! Your thrill and joy brings me so much joy 🙂
