Spring Break 2026

Our Spring Break was VERY low key this year…so much so that I feel like it probably doesn’t deserve a full recap…but here we are…I’m writing it, and you are reading it!

Since our whole family is involved at the same school, we all have the same Spring Break, which is such a blessing!

On Friday, our first day of break…we sat down and made a plan for the break. We asked the kids to pick a couple things that they would want to do (the zoo, riding bikes, a playdate with friends, etc) Theo needed to spend a few days working and catching up, and he loves to work during school breaks because it means the school building is empty and therefore distractions/interruptions are limited! So we knew we wanted to stay close to home, but still have some fun things to look forward to.

We kicked off Spring Break with a beautiful weekend. We went to the Peddlars Mall (a bust), visited the Sugarcreek Bird Farm (a success), went for a hike after church (also a success minus the WIND) and I spent a significant amount of time working on cleaning our house. I dedicated each day to one room of the house, ideally going through the whole house by the end of Spring break (a huge success!).

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, a cold front came through and it was COLD. It even snowed a few flurries although nothing stuck.

Monday was Orion’s 3rd birthday! 3!!! Can you believe it? We had my parents over for dinner and had cake and presents, but it was extremely low-key.

On Wednesday morning, Kiah had an echocardiogram to check out his heart murmur. He has a significant heart murmur, and has had it since he was a baby. They told us it would probably go away, but that if he still has it as he gets older, we should get it checked out. Well, he’s getting older…and still has it. So we got it checked out. It took a couple days to get the report back, but now we know…his heart is functioning beautifully and the heart murmur is nothing to be concerned about! This is SUCH a huge praise/relief, especially since Kiah is our kiddo who is most interested in sports and being very active.

After his testing, Theo took all four kids and took them out of the house for the day. This was my main request for Spring Break- I needed one entire day to tackle the kids rooms and do some house chores without those chores being immediately undone. It was a very successful day- all this JUNK left my house 🙂

When the kids came home, they were really excited about how clean it was and took it upon themselves to rearrange their rooms. I remember doing this as a kid and how fun it was to have a “new room”.

Thursday was Theo’s birthday. Both the older kids got together with friends, and I ran some errands. We stopped at the YMCA so that Theo could show me how to work some of the weight machines, and then I went for a run and ran to store to grab stuff for Theo’s birthday. We had dinner and cake/presents- OUTSIDE. Yay! The warm(er) weather had returned. Happy 35th, Theo!

Friday I took the kids to the zoo- we got there right around opening time and closed the place down. I think we saw almost every animal that was outside. It was a blast and while it was EXHAUSTING, I left just feeling so grateful for this crew. They are now so independent and helpful and it was nowhere near as stressful as going to the zoo with 3 toddlers 😉

Saturday was a blessed, glorious, beautiful day. Honestly, our Spring Break had kind of been an emotional bummer, plus the weather was dreary and cold, so Saturday was like medicine for a weary soul! I wrote a whole day in the life about that Saturday!

Sunday was church, a hike and then getting everything prepped for going back to school! Although it wasn’t a highlight Spring Break by any means, I feel like it was a nice week to be home, get some household stuff done, and just catch up on work overwhelm. I think we accomplished almost everything that we had set out to do during that week! It’s hard to believe that we are barreling down the last quarter of this school year! What a year it’s been!!!
