Hodgepodge- Officially Spring

Here are the questions to this week’s Hodgepodge. Answer on your own blog, then hop back here on Wednesday (March 25th) to add your link to the party. See you there!

From this Side of the Pond

1. It’s officially spring in the northern hemisphere. Does it feel like spring in your part of the world? If you’re in the southern hemisphere it’s officially autumn where you live. Does the weather say autumn? Which do you prefer-spring or autumn? Why?

I think we’ve had it all in the past week! It snowed on Tuesday- significant enough to stick, although not much accumulation. By Saturday it was GORGEOUS and sunny, like a true spring day. And then Sunday was almost NINETY degrees and hot, just like summer. I guess the only season it didn’t feel like was fall!

Speaking of- I prefer spring…but that’s not really fair to fall. The only reason I prefer spring over fall is because of the season that comes AFTER…I am a summer girl through and through, so I love spring because I know what is coming next! The only reason I dislike fall is because I know that every day of fall brings me one day closer to winter, my least favorite season.

2. What’s your favorite thing about spring?

Watching everything come back to life, and feeling myself come back to life, too. I love looking out the window and noticing that a tree has seemingly bloomed overnight, or that I am starting to see more green everywhere I look.

Another favorite part of spring is all the baby animals! We usually have piglets, baby bunnies and chicks! We do have all three this spring, although that ridiculous Tuesday snow/cold snap killed our newborn baby bunnies and we are all so sad 🙁

3. Spring into action, spring in your step, spring to life, spring to one’s feet…which spring idiom currently applies to your life in some way? Explain.

Spring into action = I’ve got to hit all of my runs/workouts as I prep for my half marathon in May!

Spring in my step = It’s Spring, which always brings a spring in my step! I feel so much lighter- the clothes I wear, just getting outside- all of my tasks/chores somehow feel so much easier!

Spring to One’s Feet = having 3 boys around (and a girl, too) means I often have to be pretty quick on my feet- dodging a basketball coming towards my face, or cleaning up a broken glass container that accidentally got dropped!

4. Which spring food from this list is your favorite? What’s a dish you like that includes your favorite spring ingredient?

asparagus, strawberries, salad greens like mesclun, artichokes, spinach, eggs, peas, spring onions

My favorite would probably be a spinach + strawberry salad with poppy seed dressing, but the one I eat the most from this list is eggs!

I love a simple roasted asparagus- I just put the asparagus on a sheet pan, pour some olive oil on top, sprinkle it with garlic salt and cook in the oven until it smells really good (haha). So simple and delicious!

5. What’s one task on your spring cleaning list? Do you actually have a list?

Over spring break, I tackled most of our house and did a ton of cleaning and decluttering! The only problem with a project like this is that it tends to turn into “if you give a mouse a cookie” type thing. For example, I was sweeping my bedroom floor when I noticed that it was super dirty under the bed, which led to me moving the bed to clean under it, which then led to me moving the nightstand and the dresser, which then led to me cleaning the mirror…and on and on haha.

The two main things that I have left to do are cleaning out the craft/game area and cleaning off all of our fans- both ceiling and box fans. They are DIRTY.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I got really stuck in my doula course on an assignment that required me to go tour a local birth facility. It literally took me 3 months to get it done (not the actual assignment- the calling on the phone part, and then the scheduling part, and then finding all the random answers that the person I asked didn’t know), and I couldn’t go on to other assignments while I was waiting. Well, I finally got that assignment done and now I’m back on track to complete my certification! I’m just a little over halfway through the course now!
