October Recap

October is winding down, and I cannot believe how beautiful the weather has been! Last night we hosted a bonfire to celebrate the end of the cross country season, and I didn’t even need a sweatshirt! On October 27th!! Remind me of this feeling next week when it’s supposed to get cold!

Anyways- I just thought I’d do a quick recap of October, and and answer some of the fun What’s Up Wednesday questions 🙂 Basically, the way I write these posts is by going through my camera roll and sharing each of the events that were a highlight for the month. So, here we go…

October started out with a BIG CHOP haircut. We took off about 14 inches of hair, and she styled it so pretty, too. Honestly, though, I miss my long hair!

Did I mention how beautiful the weather has been this month? There was one or two rainy/cold days, but otherwise it has been sunny and in the high 60s or low 70s all month long. And the sunsets have been incredible, too!

We drove to Cedarville’s homecoming, but only for the parade. Haha. Honestly, though, it’s probably the best parade I’ve ever been to, and we make a good effort to go year after year. The floats are great, there is so much candy, and it’s usually a beautiful weekend! We would have stayed longer, but Tera had a cross country meet and Kiah had a soccer game that we had to rush off to!

October had some great cross country moments, too! Tera had several meets, we had our home meet, and Kiah and Ezra also ran in some meets! We had our last meet on Monday- Tera placed 3rd place middle school female, and Kiah won the kids 1.5 mile fun run, and Ezra did the half mile fun run and finally got a medal (he’s been so disappointed that none of the meets hand out medals for fun runs!).

There was lots of soccer, too, with Kiah improving so much over the season! He has been working so hard to score goals during the game, and he finally scored in the last 3 games.

I helped chaperone a middle school event at the Corn Maze. There is never a dull moment with middle schoolers!

Of course, the biggest event of October was my Dad’s surgery. It was a very, very hard week but I’m so thankful that my brother was able to come and that my Mom, my brother and I were all able to take turns helping and supporting my Dad. I’m so thankful for the beautiful weather that week, and for the ability to stay close to the hospital. My Dad is still working through his recovery, and we would still appreciate your prayers for that! Monday was 2 weeks post op, and everything is healing as it should- but it’s tough to lose a whole part of your body (his jaw), and finding a new normal can be painfully slow.

Another big moment this month was our school town hall! Theo has been working for months on the some of the topics that were announced/discussed at the town hall, so it was BIG.DEAL for him. I’m so thankful for our school community and even though I only took this one picture, I feel like it really captures everything that I want to remember from that night.

This month Kiah turned 10! His actual birthday was just two days after my Dad’s surgery, and we were all still barely functioning, so we kept it pretty low-key. But that weekend we had a big backyard birthday party for him and he had a blast.

We had a very cold and rainy fall field trip to the Fall Fest! Seriously, I think that day was the only bad weather we had this month!

We did have our first frost, but somehow some of my zinnias are still hanging on! This is the last of them, though.

We ended the month with a sports celebration night! Tera won the “diligent” award, which is very accurate for her!

We ran into Rural King for some animal feed, and they had a bunch of plants on sale. I grabbed a bunch- we have big plans for some of them, but some of them will just sit right here in my room. Let’s see if I can keep them alive through the winter!

And that is a wrap on October! When I turned the calendar page to November, it was blessedly sparse. We’ve had a busy fall, and going into Nov and Dec with much less going on is always a blessing. I started a long term sub job and will be in the classroom until Thanksgiving, so it feels like I’m in back to school mode right now!

How was your October? How is the weather where you are? What are you looking forward to in November?

What a busy, fun month! Your hair looks cute with the new style. It is nice to not have super hot weather anymore, but I am not quite ready for the frost yet. Enjoy the rest of your week!

It sounds like overall October was a really good month. It was jammed packed for you for sure!! The weather has been amazing and it’s going to make the cold weather even harder to bear… your pictures are so good! I like cross country ones- congrats to your runners:). Good luck in the classroom. I hope all goes well for you :).
