Joining up with Joyce for her weekly hodgepodge!
1. Let’s embrace it shall we? What’s something you recently forgot to do? Is your memory these days more like a sieve or an elephant?
Oh my goodness- being in charge of the lives and calendar of 5 people means I forget things way more often than I would like! This year I have forgotten to have my child complete an assignment, forgotten which parent was supposed to pick a kid up from sports practice, and of course been late to or completely forgotten a meeting and a medical appointment.
When I write that out, it makes it sound like I forget a lot of things! But in reality, I actually remember way more than I forget, and I usually get everyone to where they need to be on time.
2. Share a trick/strategy you have to help you remember things you need to remember.
As much as I would like to have a fancy digital calendar, I actually love writing things down by hand. I have a giant family calendar that I write EVERYTHING down on. Then on Sunday afternoons, I write our week out on a whiteboard so we can see what is coming in the next few days. Then, I daily write a to-do list. Once I write it down, that usually helps me remember it!
3. What’s your favorite fall vegetable to cook with? Do you prefer your fall veggies roasted, blended into a warm soup, or fresh in a crisp autumn salad?
I had to look up what fall vegetables were.

From this list, my favorite is carrots! I also use broccoli, cabbage, spinach and potatoes in my kitchen. But I don’t have a crazy love for any of these besides carrots!
4. October 5th is/was National Do Something Nice Day. Did you? If so tell us about it. Or maybe someone did something nice for you, and if that’s the case please share.
On October 5th I spent 3 hours staking out a cross country course as part of my coaching duties. I don’t know if it counted as something nice, especially because I complained about it a little bit, but it was a lot of work for the coaches and it resulted in a lovely cross country meet on Tuesday!
5. Nathaniel Hawthorne is credited with the quote “I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house.”
Do you tend to spend more time outside this time of year?

We are outside people. Fall is absolutely the best time for hiking, as well as running outdoors. However, I don’t think that we spend as much time outside in the fall as we do in the summer. In the summer we are in the pool all day, we eat outside, we often stay up late being outside. In the fall, it is getting cold and dark by 7pm and we don’t really eat dinner outside anymore!
Do you actively pause to soak in fleeting moments of beauty in your daily routine? Elaborate.
I wish I did better at this! I have joined with the Cool Bloggers Walking Club and I’m trying to do 10 minutes of intentional walking (at least) every day in October! That has helped me to stop and enjoy some of the beauty around me. Another way that I want to do better at this is at bedtime. I feel so tired by the end of the day that I sometimes just want everyone to go to bed so I can have some quiet! But I think I rush through some moments of beauty in those times, too.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
We just hosted our home XC meet yesterday, which was a BLAST and also so much work! I’m so tired. We had to stake and flag the whole course- well, actually- 4 courses. A 1/2 mile, 1 mile, 2 mile, and 3.1 mile course. Thankfully we had a fabulous team and even though it took some time, we cranked it out and had a lot of fun while doing it!

The cool bloggers walking club!? Now, that sounds interesting! I wonder if there is simply a cool bloggers club?? (Don’t answer that. There probably is and I just wasn’t invited!!) You are right – fall is just the best for hiking. Or being outside!!:)
I found it odd that your infographic on fall veggies didn’t include any sort of squash or pumpkin or turnips or things like that that i do tend to associate with fall. But out of that graphic I’d say my favorite is probably broccoli or spinach but i can’t say i LOVE either one.. even if I do tend to eat them both on a near daily basis in our salad. I honestly can’t remember Monday already… It looks like you had wonderful weather for the meet.
