Happy Friday! It’s been a good week over here. The weather has been gorgeous! Let’s look at some of my favorites from this past week….
Favorite #1: Haircut
Well, I did it. I took the plunge and did a big chop haircut.

She took off about 14 inches of hair, y’all. I didn’t really take a before picture, but here is after:

It was really cool because I had it cut by a student who is in cosmetology school. They have a whole training program and they treat their customers well! They have a spa room to wash your hair, have a mini facial and a mini hand massage. Then a cut and style. All for $15! It was a blast getting to hang out with Lydia, too. Local friends- I highly recommend. She can do hair, nails, makeup and wax!
Favorite #2- Throwback
We recently had a meeting that was the equivalent of a PTO meeting, and the leader shared how volunteering has worked at our school in years past. Then I went searching for a picture and fell down the hole of memory lane. This was the first week that we spent at our school. If you had told me that week that one day my husband would be Head of School and we would still be there 8 years later, I probably would have laughed.
The first picture is me hanging ceiling tiles with Ezra on my back- he’s now in 2nd grade! We had to hang ceiling tiles because the owners had just bought an old, abandoned school and we had to get it in shape to pass all the code checks before school started! And the second picture is Tera’s first day of Kindergarten and Kiah was in preschool (now in 7th and 4th grade)

Favorite #3: Homecoming Parade
We headed over to Cedarville for the homecoming parade last weekend! This is one of absolute favorite parades – it’s not too long or too short. All of the floats are so fun and they give out TONS of candy. We had to rush off to cross and country and soccer as soon as the parade was done, but I’m glad we got to be there for the parade portion!
Ori even made it on Cedarville’s instagram!

Favorite #4: Cross Country
Oh, you guys thought you were going to get through a whole post without me mentioning cross country?! Haha- jokes on you! Cross country is still a favorite around here!
We hosted our home meet this past week, and while it was a lot of work, it was a favorite! We actually don’t have a track or room for a meet at our school, but the nearby park partners with us for our soccer and cross country teams to practice and play at!
The coaches and our school athletic director worked really hard Monday night to set up our four courses- a 1/2 mile, a 1 mile, a 2 mile and a 3.1 mile course. The trick is that they all have to finish at the same location since that is where the timing truck parked for the finish line! Thankfully, a lot of the mapping work had already been done from last year’s meet, so we just had to put arrows and stakes and flags all along the course, then walk/run our course to make sure it was the right distance! There were about 7 of us, and it took us 3 hours.
The meet was on Tuesday after school and it was the most BEAUTIFUL day. Everything went off without a hitch and no one got lost in the woods! Yay! My kids had great run times and Tera came in 3rd in the 2 mile and Kiah came in 2nd in the 1 mile race.
After the meet, we had to clean up all of the flags and arrows- thankfully clean up ended up being really quick and we had so many people helping since they were all there for the meet.

Favorite #5: Cool Bloggers Walking Club
I know it’s already October 9, but you can still join the Cool Bloggers Walking Club! Don’t worry about the name- you don’t have to be a blogger, and you don’t have to feel like you are “cool”. That was just the name assigned to it, and then it stuck! It’s basically just an encouragement to go for a 10 minute walk everyday in October. That’s it!
I’ve been enjoying walking around our back acre- it’s probably about 1/4 mile and it takes about 10 minutes. Sometimes I forget to go for a walk and then run out there right before the sun sets for my walk! So far I’m 8 for 9 – I haven’t walked yet today.
If you want to join, you can find more info at Elisabeth’s blog: The Optimist Musings of a Pessimist.

That’s all I’ve got for today! We finally have a more low key weekend but next week is a big week for us- my Dad has his big surgery on Monday, and I’d appreciate prayers for that! Since his surgery will be in Columbus, I will be traveling up there (about 1.5 hours away) for the first part of the week to stay with him and my Mom. Of course, Theo also has a big week with a Town Hall meeting for our school and he gets to give the “state of the school” address next week as well!
We shall see how much blogging I get done- it will all depend on if I can get some posts scheduled ahead of time, or if I have a lot of brain space while in the hospital with my Dad. Either way, I would appreciate prayers for our family.

Will be thinking about you praying for you all! I hope this weekend is pretty relaxing for you! Your haircut looks great! Wow, to that service! That is amazing. Good job by your kids (and you!) at xc!!
Your hair looks great! My son’s best friend went through the hair dressing program at their technical high school and she has been the only one to cut and color his hair ever since. Though I do think he misses the “school” prices now that she’s graduated and in a “real” salon. I hope your dad’s surgery goes well!
