Phew, what a week!
In my Friday Favorites post last week, I shared that I was hanging out at our Athletes in Action facility while my kids participated in a fun sports camp. It was a blast, and I will absolutely be doing activities like that again!
We got home and I ran two kids to basketball practice, got the house set up for a babysitter, got dressed up, and headed out to our staff Christmas party with Theo!

This party was fun but cold! We were in a barn with no insulation or heat- they did have warm space heaters, but most of us kept our hats, gloves and coats on the whole time! The food was delicious, the company was wonderful and we are both so thankful to be able to work at this school.
Saturday morning we were up and out the door for Kiah’s first basketball game! He is on a team with mostly 9-10 year olds (he is 8) and we are so proud of him! He’s not leading the team by any means, but he is keeping up!
The only downside is that allll of his games on Saturdays- every single Saturday from now until end of February. This is a downside because Theo works all of those Saturdays and getting four kids hustled out the door and content on the sidelines is A LOT. Pray for me.

Saturday night we bundled up and headed out to our local horse drawn carriage parade! This parade is fantastic- there are so many horses! And the crowds were insane! I couldn’t believe how many people were out in the FREEZING cold and dark to watch all these horses! Last year we went to the daytime one and loved it, but this year we went to the evening/night one and also loved it!

Sunday was church day and we all made it to church and through the service! I had a much needed conversation after the service with someone. I had to approach them and introduce myself and bring up the topic, so that was hard! But afterwards I was kicking myself for not doing it MONTHS ago. Theo got off work early and surprised us by showing up in the middle of the afternoon.
On Monday we had a fairly normal day and Tera had her first basketball game in the evening! I didn’t take any pictures because I ended up taking the scorebook job for her game. Phew, what a learning curve! You have to mark down who scores, penalties, possessions, foul shots, etc. Which doesn’t sound hard, but when the game doesn’t pause for you to write anything down, it’s an intense job!
On Tuesday at school we received news that someone in our community has decided to leave their job. This hit like a ton of bricks and we are still processing the good, the bad and the feelings. All the feelings.
Also, Ori’s teacher sent me this picture of him sitting with his legs through the back of the chair. This kid! He is so funny!

On Wednesday, I went to school to work in my classroom on lesson planning. All of a sudden over the PA system there was an announcement that there was an active threat and it was not a drill. Listen….so much to unpack here. In the end, it was all completely fine and someone had just accidentally hit a panic button. The panic before an all clear lasted about 1.5 minutes, but that adrenaline rush was like nothing else I’ve experienced! Of course, with Theo being in charge of security at school he had a lot to go over that day- security footage, a couple of meetings, answering a lot of questions, and helping a lot of people process the event. He wasn’t actually the security officer working that day, so there was a lot of debriefing with the other officer who was working.
Wednesday afternoon we needed our hike!!! We had SO much we needed to talk through! We walked and processed for over an hour while the kids ran and played.

Thursday was a busy school and teaching day, with students who were bouncing.off.the.walls. After school was a mad rush to get the school set up for the expo, running home to change and grab a quick dinner, then running back to school for the expo! My students recited all of Luke 2, and my kids had various presentations or projects to display. It is a very beautiful, wonderful, busy…(and extremely overstimulating for me) night.

I’m heading into this weekend with a couple of things on the calendar, which I am so thankful for! There have been many years when my December calendar was blank and I felt so jealous of everyone who had multiple parties to attend. This year we are loving the full-ness of life – AND are look forward to Christmas break with NOTHING 🙂
And that’s a wrap for this week!
Linking up with Friday Favorites to share some of our Favorites from the week!
