Unpopular Opinions

Do you have any opinions that seem to be really unpopular? Let me explain what I mean by this…do you have any opinions that you seem to be in the minority with?

I’ll go first and say a few of mine. These are not meant to cause controversy, but rather create a dialogue. It’s ok if we are all unique and have some unpopular opinions here and there!

For example…

I don’t shop at Target. I honestly don’t understand the allure. If we are looking for cheap things that look nice, what’s wrong with Walmart? And the dollar section? Why do we call it this? I’ve never seen anything in that section that costs less than $3. And while it’s all super cute, $3 adds up REAL quick.

I don’t drink coffee. Maybe this will change one day, but I doubt it. I just don’t like it. I also don’t drink wine. Am I even a millennial Mom?

Leggings are not pants. I was hoping this trend would fade rather quickly, but instead it’s lasted years and carried many a MLM plan on it’s wings. I just don’t understand it. Why do we want to sheathe our nether regions in something that leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination- and frankly some of us need some imagination back there? I truthfully don’t enjoy standing in line behind a fully outlined butt. I totally get it as comfortable attire for around the house and leggings can look incredibly cute with a tunic or under a dress but I’m ready for this style to go out already.

Kids should not have smart phones. The internet seems to be up in arms about children having smart phones. Most parents I hear online say they don’t support young children having phones. But I don’t know where those parents are in my child’s 6th grade lineup. Every single child that I’ve met from her school has their very own smart phone. It’s become so hard for us to let Heavenly go to anyone’s house to hang out or have a sleepover because each time they end up playing on the phones for hours, and usually on apps that are just not wise (I’ve caught the girls in my own home on dating apps, posting inappropriate photos on snapchat, and messaging strangers on another app. That’s just in my own house, where they know I’m strict. What’s going on when there is no monitoring? Also, if you think your child isn’t doing this, I’d encourage you to think again). I say NO to children owning their own smart phones. Let’s let them be kids. And if they HAVE to have a phone for school pickups and sports practices, get them a flip phone!

I need a top sheet. According to Facebook, most millennials don’t use top sheets. Heavenly doesn’t use one and I found it completely absurd. And then I realized that most of her generation and the generation right after me don’t use one. WHAT? Who are these people?

So what about you? What are some unpopular opinions that you have? Do you agree or disagree with my unpopular opinions?

And just to round out this blog post with something that will bring us all together, the most popular opinion of all lately seems to be:

CAN IT JUST BE SPRING ALREADY?

Right? Am I right?

You’re going to have to explain the top sheet malarkey to me, I’m from the UK.
We have one sheet on top of the mattress, and then a duvet cover over the duvet.
If you have blankets and no duvet, then you put a sheet underneath the blankets, but only old people don’t have duvets over here.

Ha! A friend just informed me that this is not the case in England. Here in the US a sheet set comes with a fitted sheet that goes on the mattress. You sleep on top of that. Then, a matching sheet made of the same material that is just a flat piece of cloth goes on top of the fitted sheet. The blankets/duvets go on top of that. When you slide into bed, you put your body in between the fitted sheet and the top sheet, with the blankets or duvets on top of that.

I can understand the blanket- no way would I sleep with a blanket and no top sheet.

But if you have a duvet, do you have a duvet cover AND a top sheet? Surely redundant.
If no duvet cover, your duvets must look prettier than ours naked! There are labels on the outside of the duvet that are meant to be covered by a duvet cover.

I agree with all of your opinions. Target is just glorified Walmart. Their stuff is also made in foreign countries and having worked at both I can tell you that the employee experience is similar. I don’t know why some people feel so much better about shopping at Target. I tried coffee for awhile in college but it started turning my teeth brown, so I gave it up. I won’t wear leggings out of the house. My son (6th grade) won’t have a phone until high school and maybe not even then. And lastly, sleeping on a bed between two smooth, clean sheets is so comfortable! Are they going to do away with top sheets one day!? I hope not.

I’m shocked at how many people actually agree with me! Haha! I sure hope they don’t do away with top sheets! Can you imagine going to stay at your children’s house when they are grown adults and they don’t have a top sheet?!? We will have to start traveling with our own! HAHA.

I agree with you on a lot of these: don’t see the allure of Target (and subsequently don’t shop there). I don’t drink coffee or wine. I have begun wearing leggings as pants and my kids have cell phones which I HATE on so many levels. But I do like that I can be in contact with them when I am physically away from them. Oh, and top sheet all the way!!

  5. Anna Gallop says:

I’m pretty much the same as you with all these. I do shop at Target sometimes or Walmart, but mostly just
Aldi and Amazon. I drink coffee sometimes…instant decaf from Aldi. My SIL (one of my 10!) gave me a lovely linen bed set. It felt amazing, but it didn’t have a top sheet, so I had to pass it on to another SIL. It kind of had a top sheet, but it snapped to the duvet cover so it was kind of part of that and I couldn’t make my bed properly (which is part of the marketing apparently, but I like a made bed).

Team no top sheet over here! I’ve hated having a top sheet ever since I was a little kid! I just use my comforter/duvet and wash it often.

Also team pants are NOT leggings! I wear leggings probably 3-4 days a week and I am always 100% covered. I cannot stand leggings as pants lol Cover your backside and your lady business!

And lastly, I am 1,000,000% team NO SMART PHONES FOR PRE-TEENS/TEENS. Cell phones – yes. We’re in a day and age where we don’t have pay phones for kids to use like when I was growing up. So I will concede and say they need cell phones. I understand needing to get a hold of parents and what not. But smart phones? Nope. I was a foster parent to a 14 year old and she lost her cell phone within a week or so for inappropriate usage. I am also an elementary school counselor and I can’t tell you how may fake apps there are that are DESIGNED to trick parents and allow kids to text and talk inappropriately. πŸ™

I so agree about Target! I live in Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ and we got Targets opened all over the country… they lasted one year and it left again. Everyone just kept going to Wal Mart πŸ˜‚ No coffee for me but I keep saying I need to start drinking it… I’m a tea and wine lover though! 100% agree about the phones I’m so glad my oldest is 2 and we aren’t there yet!! About the sheets… I just wonder what all the ppl not using the top sheet do with it after they buy a sheet set!
