Hosting a Farm Day

About once a year, typically in the Spring, we host a little “farm day” experience at our property. Last year, I partnered with an amazing local social media influencer and we opened the event up for any Moms in the community that came across our posts! That was fun, but it was slightly stressful because I felt like I had to worry about waivers and we had to create an outdoor bathroom situation so that I didn’t have 100 strangers tracking through my house to go to the bathroom.

This year, I kept the event really small and just sent an email to our Kid Ministry director at church and asked her to send an invite out to the families who have kids in Kid Ministry. We had about 25 families come, and it ended up being a really sweet and fun morning!

The nice thing about hosting a day like this, is that it’s actually not that much prep work. Sure, we had to mow the yard and make sure that parking was manageable, but mostly people just showed up to our home as-is.

I set out some egg cartons for collecting eggs, some containers to put picked mulberries in, and some egg shells that guests could feed to the chickens.

I had people sign up for staggered arrival time since our parking is limited, and I essentially had 3 different groups show up. It was fun because while we all go to the same church, not everyone knows each other. The kids loved running around and playing with the animals, but the highlight was absolutely the trampoline and playset haha.

We had chicks, sheep, piglets, baby bunnies, our free-range flock of chickens, and cats. I had 4 lovely teen helpers who came out and I put one teen at each animal to kind of monitor and oversee how kids were handling the animals. Theo and I mostly walked around and answered questions and chatted with our guests.

It was a lovely time, but we were tired when everyone went home!

So- what do you think? If a local homestead had a similar event, would you attend?

If we ever decided to charge to an event like this, how much would you be willing to pay?

Does the idea of hosting something like this stress you out, or make you excited?
