Some July Friday Favorites

Well, we made it back from our Hines family reunion- which is usually the last hurrah of summer for us. We still have 3 more weeks before school starts, but with a school employee in the household, it’s basically already back to school season! CRAZY!

Let’s check out some favorite things that have been going on lately:

Hines Family Reunion

I’ll do a full recap of it later next week, but we had a lovely reunion with ALMOST the entire family- we were missing two young men who had to stay home and work- but then one young man finished his work for the day and drove all night to join us- so we were only missing one person from the 41 that makes up Theo’s family. We were in northern MI and the smoke was REALLY bad, but we still managed to have some good fun!

Games

The Hines family has always enjoyed a good game, and it’s always interesting to see which game is going to be played the most at our reunions! This summer it was: Skull King and Qwixx! I highly recommend both!

Game Closet

Speaking of games- our game closet got a makeover! Well, nothing actually changed about the game closet, other than cleaning it out. We took every game out, then we made an inventory list of them all, and then we neatly put them all back in. Now we have a goal to play through every game we own!

Sunflowers

As usual- I planted my sunflowers, got overwhelmed with taking care of them, gave up on them, and then suddenly- there are flowers!!! Every year I’m shocked that anything actually grows in the middle of the mess of weeds! There will be more sunflower content to come, I’m sure!

You’re SO PRETTY

I was at the pool last week, and a teenage girl came up to me and said “you are SO pretty! Like, so pretty!” I did a double take and said “who, me?” I’m a frazzled 35 year old Mom at a pool party with three kids who can barely swim, a compliment is the last thing I expected, especially from a teenager haha. After she swam away giggling, I wondered if it was a dare of some sort, but even if it was, I’ll choose to take it! Haha!

And it was a great reminder to me to continue giving compliments whenever I possibly can. It seriously made my day to receive an unexpected compliment, and I bet there are so many people around me who would feel the same! So- here is a challenge for you: try to give a compliment every day this week!

40th Birthday Dinner

One of my friends is turning 40 this month, so we went out for dinner and ice cream to celebrate her. It was such a great evening together.

Camp

Our oldest was off to overnight camp this week! This is the first time we have ever done such a thing, and it felt like a BIG DEAL for all of us! We sure did miss her, but we are also so proud of the young lady that she is becoming and how fun it is to encourage her independence and responsibility! I’m writing this post before she returns, so I don’t know how it has gone, but I can’t wait to hear all about it!

And that’s all for now! I hope you have had a wonderful week, and a great weekend ahead!
