The Quilts My Mother Made

When we first found out that we were expecting Tera, my Mom started to make a quilt for her. She asked what colors we wanted and I picked yellow, gray and teal/blue. My Mom labored to make this quilt all by hand and gave it to Tera when she was born. She has continued this tradition and made a quilt for each of my children when they are born (and my nephews, too!).

This past weekend, we had a chance to line up all three kids and photograph them on their special quilts. I LOVE that my kids have this sweet gift from my Mom- seriously, nothing beats a specially made handmade gift.

Kiah at 6 months:

Ezra at 6 months (this is not his special quilt):

All three side by side:

The kids were hot, tired and HANGRY. So these pictures are more candid shots than beautifully posed.

It’s so fun to see the special relationships that are developing between each of my kiddos. I can’t wait to see how these relationships form as they grow older. I think it’s so sweet watching Tera and Ezra together. Since he was a newborn, she would ask if she could “babysit” him, and I would put him down on the bed or the floor in the room that she is in and let her read to him and play with him. They adore it. And the feeling is mutual.

All three are so special and even though they all fight and yell and someone may have bitten someone else yesterday, they all love each other and I’m just DELIGHTED that they have each other.

I sure am thankful for grandparents who truly love and care about their grandchildren. Living far away from them is hard, but the times we do get to spend together are the sweetest. I’m thankful for my Mom’s labor of love in making these quilts, and how my kids will have a tangible piece of love from their Memaw.

And, finally….I leave you with this picture. Because Ezra’s face says it all.
