Full September Weekends

So…full disclosure here. I meant to write this recap two weeks ago, right after this weekend had happened. But the Monday after, my laptop decided to die. There was some kind of short inside of it and it would just power off within 10 seconds of being turned on. This made it not only difficult to write a blog post, but also to fulfill all of my teacher duties! YIKES! I took it in to get repaired, and it took a week…but it’s back to working! WOO-HOO! So, yes, I know that this blog post really no longer is up to date, but I’m going to write it anyways!

Our weekends actually start on Thursday afternoon. We are all usually so exhausted and just ready to crash, an that is what we did! We ate some dinner, put on a movie for the kids, and then Theo and I usually piddle around and either finish some chores, read a book, or also watch the movie. This evening, though, I came out to find Theo sitting in a plastic chair with his dog and a gun, trying to catch the predator that has now gotten 12 of our chickens. I joined him for a few minutes and we had a nice chat- so rare these days with how busy we have been and how our schedules do not always overlap!

Friday is a homeschool day so we pulled out the books, papers and other school things that needed to be done and got to work on that! Tera is in 3rd grade and can do most of her work independently, but still needs me nearby to help out. Kiah is in Kindergarten and needs me with him pretty much the whole time, and Ezra is just along for the ride, but loves to color or paint while the two bigger ones are working. I am usually trying to do too many things at once with school stuff on my laptop, some lesson planning, and helping the kids when they need it. Theo is also around on Fridays, so he helps or gets chores done outside and then distracts whichever kids finish first. Ha.

On this particular morning we also had a playdate at a park, but I didn’t manage to take any pictures!

Tera, Kiah and I worked on baking some cookies and then ran them over to school to start setting up for the Powerpuff football game. Tera and I were slotted to work the concession stand, so we got to work getting everything set up and making sure that we had all that was needed.

Meanwhile, Theo had made a vet appointment for BOTH our cat and our dog. HAHA. I thought it would be a total disaster (especially as we don’t have a carrier/crate for either one of them!), but it turned out to be this hilarious experience where they bonded over their mutual vet trauma and cuddled together on the exam table.

Since Theo was at the vet, all three kids and I worked the concession stand for the game. It was good training for all of us!

Tera was asked to help hand out the flowers to the homecoming court at halftime. I love that our school includes the littles and bigs together at events like this!

After the game, there was a bonfire and lots of families showed up to hang out. Theo took the boys home early, but Tera and I stayed late just hanging out with our school community. We went home and crashed hard because the next day was going to be big, too!

On Saturday, Theo headed back to work and the kids and I spent time at home just trying to get caught up on the million things that need to be done in a home! Ha!

On Saturday evening I threw together dinner real quick and went over to my parents house to eat. Tera and I left the boys with my parents while we went to a Mother/Daughter event at Cedarville. The boys had a BLAST with Memaw and Pepaw and rode something like 4 miles on their bikes! They slept WELL that night.

Meanwhile, Tera and I arrived at Cedarville and I ran inside to see if I could grab a chai tea. The chai made at the Cedarville coffee shop is my favorite chai I’ve ever had. I got there around 6:05 and the barista told me they had just closed….but that he would make me a drink anyways, since he hadn’t cleaned up! SO SWEET!

The event was called True Girl and was geared for girls ages 7-12. It was so sweet (but a bit cheesy for anyone over 10 haha) and had so many great gospel truths also wrapped up with fun fashion shows, songs, interactive discussions, etc. If you have the event coming to you, I would recommend it! It was also supposed to be a pajama party, which was a real predicament for many attendees. Go all out but look kinda strange in PJs? Don’t wear PJs at all and look like you are not aware of the theme? I opted for joggers with a comfy top and cute earrings. Casual enough but I didn’t feel like I was embarrassed to be in public.

After the event (which ended at 9:00- SO FAR PAST OUR BEDTIME) we drove back to my parents house to spend the night. Theo was working overtime and since the boys were already in bed at my parents, it just made sense!

In the morning we attended my parents church- and they were celebrating their 1 year anniversary! So they had a fun lunch with bounce houses and other activities.

I hit 15 weeks pregnant and am still trying to gain back the many pounds that I lost in my first trimester+. I’m thankful that I feel functional enough to be able to tackle a weekend like this, but also…I would still love to feel GREAT one of these days, instead of constantly on the edge of BLAH.

As you can imagine, we were all pretty exhausted after that! We headed home to find these sweet flowers that Theo picked on our property and put on my table. And that view. It still stops me in my tracks!

The kids and I worked through animal chores and then we CRASHED HARD. That was the end of our weekend and we started over again the next day!

Our weekends are not normally THAT busy, but this was a fun one! Typically I like a balance between really busy and some nice times of rest, but somehow it seems there is either nothing on the calendar or TONS in one weekend. Ha!
