Podcasts I Love & Listen To

I’ll admit it- I’m a podcast girl! For some reason I do not enjoy audio books, but I love podcasts! Does this have something to do with the length? Or the content- more conversational vs. long-form stories? I don’t know, but that is the way it is!

When do I listen to podcasts? I listen to them a lot! I listen to some while I run (but it has to be interesting). I listen a lot while I do dishes and cook dinner. I fold all my laundry once a week and listen to podcasts then and I also listen while I’m driving. I primarily listen with one AirPod in my ear, but I think that AirPods give me headaches so I try to listen out loud whenever I can. But it can be so loud in my house and my life that sometimes I just need the podcast right in my ears!

I primarily listen to four types of podcasts- Christian Life & Thought, Book-ish, Homestead-y and News. Well, I think I only listen to one news podcast, but it is one of my can’t miss daily podcasts!

Christian Life and Thought

Glorious in the Mundane – Christian singer who does occasional seasons about the songs/albums that she produces. I love her voice and stumbled upon this podcast because of the same name.

Journeywomen – Interviews various Christian authors, pastors, and people of the faith on very relevant, encouraging and uplifting topics. Highly recommend!

M is for Mama – mother of 10 who addresses how Christian motherhood could look different from cultural motherhood. I enjoy her, but sometimes struggle with her know it all attitude.

Mama Bear Apologetics – talks through various topics and what they feel the Christian stance should be. I find them VERY conservative and sometimes disagree with them, but do glean some insight by listening and following.

Now That We’re A Family– fun husband/wife duo who talk through marriage, parenting, and building a family that follows God. They are young, with young children, but still have some REALLY great advice and wisdom.

Relatable- extremely political podcast by Allie Stuckey. This is a newer listen for me. I enjoy many of the episodes, but have to skip some of them because her one sided ranting can get a bit over the top. I LOVED one episode where she had a respectful debate with another Christian woman who came at a political topic from a completely different perspective. It gave me so much food for thought.

Risen Motherhood- unfortunately, they are all done podcasting and will be removing all of their archives from the internet, too. But they have so much wisdom to offer on daily motherhood things as Christian Moms.

She Reads Truth – they go through different books/topics of the Bible and do deep dive/Bible study on it. This podcast has really taught me a lot about how to study the Bible and even if I’m not reading the book that they are studying, I still glean a lot from this podcast!

That Sounds Fun – Annie and I have had a back and forth relationship. I think that she is an excellent interviewer and she has some really fun and knowledgeable guests on her show! However, she sometimes drips in wealth/connections privilege and I find that really unrelatable as a Mom in the cornfields of Ohio. I also don’t agree with her on some theological points and sometimes she really pushes agendas that push some buttons in me 🙂 Right now I’m pretty close to hitting the unsubscribe button on this one as she talks non stop about her second home in NYC…but I think that’s more of a “it’s not you, its me” problem 🙂

Book-ish

I listen to a lot of book content! And this is where I get a lot of my book ideas! I’m not a huge fan of author interviews, but Thoughts from a Page and Sarah’s Bookshelves Live both do a great job with author interviews. The rest of these podcast just review the books that they have read or ones that they look forward to reading.

Homestead-y

These are pretty self-explanatory- they talk about the homesteading lifestyle! Some episodes are extremely helpful and some episodes I skip because I am NOT at the level of milling my own flour or raising 200 head of cattle.

Homesteaders of America

Homesteady – this is one stories of the homestead/off grid lifestyle told in documentary form. It’s very entertaining, although they seem to release episodes only once every couple of months!

News

I love The Newsworthy. Her tagline is “fast, fair, fun” and I find this to be absolutely true! I am usually very well informed on news, politics and things to know just from listening to this each weekday. But a huge bonus of this podcast is that it doesn’t overwhelm me with doom and gloom! I also find her to do a very good job of presenting the news in an unbiased/fair way. I know we all have bias, but in the 5+ years I’ve been listening to this podcast, I have never once felt like she was clearly on “one side”. She will even do Saturday editions where she will interview two people from different sides of the fence on the same issue. I highly recommend this one!

Miscellaneous

The Rebuild

I just started to listen to this one, as one of the hosts is someone I went to school with! I thought I would listen to be polite and wasn’t sure I would be able to relate at all, but after the first episode I loved it! I highly recommend this to any woman who struggles to balance career and life and children without feeling suffocated beneath those demands.

Minimalist Mom

I used to think I was a minimalist, but now I just call myself a “simplest” – I like to keep things simple! I really enjoy listening to this podcast and the guests that she interviews. Sometimes it can get repetitive, but for the most part it’s very encouraging and useful information!

And that’s a wrap! I know that it seems like a lot, but I’m usually a couple weeks behind and have like 60+ unlistened episodes at a time! I’m excited to hear about what everyone else is listening to!

I am the complete opposite! The only times I’ve listened to podcasts is in the car with my husband (when he requests it or starts one). I tend to listen to audiobooks all the time tough; while cleaning the house, while driving, while prepping dinner, etc.
