Wednesday Hodgepodge- 10/22

I am currently sitting in my classroom and it’s COLD. The trees are turning gorgeous colors and the clouds are dark, but the sun is shining. It is so vivid outside! I can’t believe that we have come to the last two weeks of October and haven’t yet started a fire in our fireplace! I think today might be the day…

1. What do you like most about your family?

I like that we enjoy being together! Especially as the kids are getting older, we are able to spend more time together enjoying things. I think that we are very intentional about togetherness.

I saw this meme and felt it deeply:

It’s so true! We are always together. Always.

2. What’s something nice that’s happened to you recently?

I grabbed these stickers from a Buy Nothing post and the kids spend about an hour sorting and trading them. I talk about this all the time, but I love our Buy Nothing group and get so many great things from it! The people on the group are SO NICE.

3. Do you like the color orange? Besides a pumpkin and an actual orange, what’s something orange you love?

This is so fun that this question happened this week! I typically don’t love orange- I don’t have it in my decor and I NEVER wear orange. But this week our school had a SPIRIT DAY and the instructions were to wear ORANGE for Elijah! Elijah is one of our students who was diagnosed with leukemia in February. He came to school on a Thursday and then was diagnosed on Saturday evening. He never came back to school and has spent the last 8.5 months doing very intensive treatment and chemo. Well, yesterday- Tuesday- was his FIRST day back!! The school all wore orange and lined the halls to clap him in! He had a great first day back! He is still under a lot of treatment but got the all clear to be back at school and church! Now, THAT is a reason I will wear orange!

4.  What’s something you have now you couldn’t have imagined having five years ago? How does that make you feel? What’s possible now because of it?

Land! I can’t believe that we finally have a little piece of land to live on. We always wanted to raise our kids a little bit more wild and free, and we looked at plots of land for years before we finally found the one. We have lived there for almost four years, but I still can’t believe it!

Honestly, homesteading isn’t as glamorous as it may look online, and it created a lot of work- but it also creates so many great teaching opportunities and I love knowing where my meat and eggs come from!

5. Let’s wrap this one up with an October this or that…

  • pumpkin bread or apple cider donut
  • cozy sweater or cozy hoodie
  • apple picking or pumpkin picking
  • scary movie or Hallmark movie
  • hay ride or corn maze
  • twinkle lights or candles
  • autumn hike or autumn bonfire

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Theo was out of town at a conference earlier this week, and I am TIRED! Solo parenting is much easier with bigger kids, but we still had some hard moments. Anyways, I feel like I could really use a nap or a restful day/evening. Tomorrow is our annual overnight trip to Great Wolf Lodge with school friends, so there is no rest for the weary haha!
