The Enjoyment Project: Challenge #1

“Get back in your bed! It’s too early to be awake!”

This is how I greeted my children in the morning not too long ago.

I am a morning person and I love to wake up in the morning and get things done. I warm up some hot water for tea, and I settle down on the couch with a blanket and my Bible and blogging supplies. I love to sit quietly in the house while everyone else is sleeping.

I love it so much that I find myself incredibly irritated if anyone or anything interrupts that morning time. This often results in me snapping at my children as soon as they stir. Or maybe you find yourself trying to stay in bed as long as possible. The kids wake up time can feel like a personal affront to your sleeping time.

Experts say that the first three minutes of a child’s day are vital to how the rest of the day will go.

Read that again.

The first three minutes of the day are vital. That means that when the first thing I do to my kiddos is snap at them, that will affect their entire day. Ouch.

That is why our first challenge is a simple but profound challenge.

Greet your child with a smile and a hug when you first see them in the morning.

21 days straight. Every morning. No matter what the circumstances of the morning are, our children need to be greeted in the morning with kindness and welcoming.
