He Reads Truth (Review and Giveaway!)

Several years ago, Rachel Myers and Amanda Bible Williams created a community focused on studying the word of God called She Reads Truth. They curated beautiful bible study plans and ways for women to be intentionally diving into the word. They eventually published the She Reads Truth Bible, which I have had for several years now and LOVE. Recently, they were able to work towards also founding a community of men called He Reads Truth as well as a community of children called Kids Read Truth.

Just in time for Father’s Day, they have released the new He Reads Truth Bible! I had the honor of receiving one to gift to Theo (and one to give away to one of you!!), and this is my honest review of the Bible.

This bible is beautiful- both the She Reads Truth and He Reads Truth versions! Although it not technically a study bible, it comes with so many additional study pages to teach about each book of the Bible. Each book starts with a cover design and describes the Who, What, When, Where and main themes of the book.

Throughout the Bible, there are pages of deeper study, such as this one on the different groups that are seen in the gospels.

This Bible is written in the Christian Standard Bible version. I had never come across this version before the She Reads Truth Bible, but I do enjoy being able to read my bible in several different versions. My church usually teaches with the ESV Bible, so I typically memorize Scripture in that version, but it’s still helpful for me to read different versions. You can read more about this translation of the Bible here: Christian Standard Bible.

I had some fun looking at the differences between the She Reads Truth and the He Reads Truth Bibles. Although they are the same translation and have many similarities, they also have different studies and the cover pages of the books are different (but similar). My Bible tabs are from Etsy.

One thing I love about this Bible is the margins on each page. They are fantastic for note taking or journaling right in the Bible. I find this so helpful while studying God’s word to be able to mark down my observations or thoughts, or write particularly striking quotes from sermons inside the Bible.

There are two things that I need to point out about this Bible- first, it is a hardcover Bible and is therefore quite heavy! Since I’m already taking three children and three bags plus a baby carrier to church, I leave this Bible at home. I do read it all the time at home, but it’s just too heavy and bulky for me to take out. The other thing is that the pages are very thin. As you can see in some of the above photos, they are thin enough to be seen through. However, writing or underlining doesn’t bleed through any more than the words that are already seen.

For study, I’ve always used NASB, but lately I’ve been enjoying reading the Passion Translation as well.

Oh wow! Yes im old school and love KJV BUT…as a family to help all kids with reading & understanding (7 kids ages 4m to 20yo) we use Christian Standard. Its what we use for family Bible time but we have other versions for cross reference & personal study depending on what they like.

We started using the NKJV when our kids started reading – so that’s what I’ve been using for the past 15 years. I’ve also got an NIV and love the JB Phillips translation for the New Testament. So guess favourite would be the NKJV

I love the NIV – especially older versions of it. Our pastor uses the Christian Standard Bible at church and I enjoy it too.
