The Hines and the Sunflower Stalks (a rendition of Jack and the Beanstalk)

Once upon a time, on a bleak winter day in February, the Hines were shopping in the aisles of Home Depot. As they walked down an aisle, Suzanne spotted all the beautiful flowering seeds. The winter was SO bleak and the seeds were SO beautiful, so they decided to buy some. Of course, they decided to choose seeds of the sunflower variety.

When the sun came out and thawed the earth, Theo carefully planted the sunflower seeds in the front of the home.

The Hines family watched with delight as the sunflowers began to grow.

And grow.

And grow.

And grow.

And grow.

And GROW! Those sunflower grew to be over 11 feet tall.

And then one day….the Hines family spotted a little sliver of yellow peeping out of one of the tallest sunflowers.

THE SUNFLOWERS WERE BLOOMING!

And then one special morning, which happened to be a special little girl’s 5th birthday, the first sunflower opened all the way.

And then sunflowers bloomed

And bloomed

And bloomed

And BLOOMED!

Matthew 6:28-30

And why do you worry about clothes? Observe how the wildflowers of the field grow: They don’t labor or spin thread. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these. If that’s how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, won’t he do much more for you– you of little faith? So don’t worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’. For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things, and your Heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Suzanne. What a beautiful story! You have no idea how much the scripture you included spoke to my heart today. We just got some potential life changing hard medical news, and I really really really need all the reminders to just let God be in control.

Also, I will be planting sunflowers next year. These are so beautiful!

This scripture is exactly what my heart needed to hear today. I write it down even so I can remind myself that God will take care of us. Those sunflowers are absolutely gorgeous!! Wow. Have a great day.
