October: Changes, Pets and Staying Busy

Hard to believe that today is November 1st!!!

October was a busy month for us, and as I looked back on the pictures I could hardly believe that the stuff happening at the beginning of October was just this past month.

October 1st was an EXCITING and MUCH-ANTICIPATED day around here. I mean….a day I dreamed of for YEARS. MY PARENTS MOVED IN ACROSS THE STREET! We have lived at least 10 hours apart since my freshman year of college (12+ years ago) and most of that time was even across an ocean. So this has been a TREAT! I know that it’s a big adjustment for them, but for us it has been such a huge blessing.

The same weekend that my parents moved to Ohio, we had homecoming weekend at Cedarville University. We didn’t do much except attend the homecoming parade and walk around campus for a bit, but it was fun to catch up with some people that we saw and revisit old memories!

Our next exciting event was participating in a surprise birthday party for Theo’s brother Ethan! We met at a spot outside their property and then all drove in, honking horns and shouting HAPPY BIRTHDAY! He was surprised and it was a blast!

We gained two pets this month as well, bringing our total to three. One cat, one bearded dragon, and one ball python. EEK! I can’t believe that I said yes to a SNAKE!

October really ushered in the fall weather and most of our trees are in their most vibrant leaf foliage right now. I’ve been enjoying the last of the outdoor runs for the year and sometimes just have to stop dead in my tracks to take a picture of the trees or the sky!

Another fun highlight of the month was getting to go back to Cedarville’s campus for a morning. I signed the two older kiddos up for a homeschool math day put on by the university education students. They got to play games and learn all kinds of grade-appropriate information about MATH! And I got to walk around campus with my Ezra, drink my favorite kind of chai and briefly see our favorite college student! Also, we went to chapel where Ezra proceeded to act like he has never had to sit still and quiet in his life. Yikes!

October is also birthday month for THIS BOY! I cannot believe that he is 5 years old already. He is thriving in his preschool class and growing and maturing pretty much every day. I think that he is almost ready to start reading. I’m so proud of my boy!

This kid has now been in childcare for two years, but we are still getting sick way too often. It’s been a big stressor for me and I’m honestly not sure how to keep going when every time he is around a germ, it lodges itself right into his body and blesses the whole family for the next 2-3 weeks. Eeks.

We also finished up the soccer season for the two older kids this month! I have a lot of thoughts on this, so stay tuned for another blog post soon!

We attended one fall festival this month, and that was enough for us! Does it seem to anyone else like going to a fall festival has exploded in popularity over the last few years? I feel like it used to be something fun to maybe do. And now it’s something that HAS to be done and ALL THE FALL FEELS have to be felt. We were on a hay ride with a family whose kiddo was done. All done. And after we get off the hayride the Dad is stomping around behind Mom ranting about how overdone their family was with fall. Yikes. Anyways, we had fun at our one fall festival!

Tera was star student at school! Being a teacher at her school has some advantages- like I know her teacher, I know all her classmates and I get to see her every day in the halls and at lunch! But it also has a disadvantage because I never get to come to her class for any special events since I’m teaching the whole time. So I wasn’t able to come to her star student presentation, but I heard that she did great! She wanted to bring her cat to show the class, but we settled on taking a picture of Tera with the cat to show the class.

Thanks to my parents, Theo and I got a date night!! This was the first one on one time we have had since like March. We just had fun together, nothing too serious. Olive Garden dinner and mini golf at Scene 75.

October wrapped up with a very busy weekend that I will recap in a separate post! So for now I will leave you with this picture of our cat sitting in my puzzle. Because why ever not?

Happy November! I still can’t believe that October is already over….
