Friday Favorites

Hello there, Friday! I absolutely never know what day of the week it is since Theo’s schedule and the kids + I schedules are pretty much exactly the opposite, and my brain literally never knows which schedule track to run on. But! Today is Friday and I am linking up with some other bloggers to write about some of my favorites lately.

  • My very favorite favorite is that we are finally getting fresh chicken eggs every day!! We get anywhere from 6-12 eggs a day and believe it or not, we eat almost all of them on a daily basis. I ordered this countertop egg holder spiral and I’ve never felt more like a real homesteader. Seeing fresh eggs on my counter is A FAVORITE.
  • Little Women. I read “So Many Beginnings” earlier this fall and while I was reading I truly wondered if I had read the original, so I decided to pick it up. It’s a HEFTY book, but it’s so delightful I can hardly put it down! I still don’t know if I’ve actually read it before- if I have, it was long before Goodreads was a thing and I don’t have a record of it. I’m finding it absolutely delightful.
  • Read Aloud at Night. I hate winter but I am learning to appreciate and implement seasonal routines for our family. During the summer we are usually up until sunset and then crash into bed without much of an evening routine. But in winter we start animal chores around 5, eat dinner by 6 and then have an hour or so to just hang out as a family. Our FAVORITE routine has been doing a read aloud while the kids color or do sticker books. We are working our way through the Trailblazer series by Dave and Neta Jackson and we are LOVING them. Each book is about a hero of the faith, but it’s usually told from a fictional character who may have interacted with them. I love that the main perspective isn’t all about the “hero”, even though we learn all about them. We just finished the one called “The Fate of the Yellow Woodbee” about Nate Saint, Jim Elliott, Pete Fleming, Ed McCully and Roger Youderin who were massacred by the tribe they were trying to reach. By the end, I was crying so hard I had to stop reading aloud for a hot second. Did you know that the sone of Nate Saint was baptized in the river at the very spot where his Father was killed – by one of the men who killed his Dad? Incredible story, and I love how these books makes it accessible for kids to understand the story, too.
  • A Sweet Encouragement from my Classroom Parents. Another favorite this week was this gift basket that was handed to me early in the morning from one of my students parents. Some of the parents got together and put together some snacks and ginger ale. I was so surprised and it just blessed my socks right off!
  • The potted plant + kitten fiasco was HILARIOUS to us. Ezra knocked the plant off the mantle….right onto the kitten who was trying to sleep on the chair. I will admit that at first, I was super annoyed with Ezra for causing this mess, but as soon as I saw this kitten I just had to laugh hysterically.

And that’s all for today! Have a wonderful Friday and a wonderful weekend- hard to believe this is the last weekend before Thanksgiving!
