Linking up with What’s Up Wednesday today…
It’s so hard for me to believe that March is already almost over! March was absolutely the longest and yet shortest month I’ve ever experienced! I finished up teaching at 39 weeks pregnant on March 2nd, and then we waited and waited and waited and waited for baby Orion to finally make his arrival. 6 days overdue, on his own time, he finally came along…on the 16th of March! And then the past two weeks since he was born have just FLOWN by! Still, I wanted to capture some of what March has looked like for us…!
What We Are Eating This Week
We are flying high on that post-baby meal train! Tonight someone is bringing a chicken and potato meal and tomorrow someone is bringing dinner, but I am not sure what it is yet. Friday and Saturday I will be back in the kitchen (and I’m honestly SO READY to be getting back) and I’ll make some pizza and a chicken + rice dish.
What I’m Reminiscing About
All of my newborns, of course. This is my fifth time having a newborn (our four biological babies and baby Abby was our foster daughter – we brought her home from the NICU and had her for nine months). So far I still hold STRONGLY to the opinion that going from 0 to 1 children was my HARDEST transition by far. The easiest has been the 3rd and 4th babies. But looking back at these photos just reminds me that BABIES DON’T KEEP!

What I’m Loving
Newborn snuggles! Honestly, even being up all night with a newborn isn’t bothering me as much this time around. Because he’s already almost two weeks old and I feel like if I blink for just one second he will be four!

What We’ve Been Up To
Honestly, this whole month was everything baby! Waiting for baby, having a baby, and then snuggling and taking care of the baby. Unfortunately, the big kids all came down with a nasty cough/cold the week we brought Orion home, so it’s been a little bit stressful juggling sick bigger kids with newborn needs.

What I’m Dreading
At this point, I’m not dreading much!
What I’m Working On
Getting our family of 6 back into a routine! Theo has a wonderful paternity leave and I really want to soak up the time we have together as a family, while at the same time adjusting to a new family member takes time! I’m just trying to balance the need for a routine while also being really flexible and knowing that we aren’t going to have it all down perfectly on week 2.
What I’m Excited About
SPRING! We have now lived on our homestead almost one year, and we have learned SO MUCH! Last spring/summer, we were basically just trying to manage our land and then I got so sick while pregnant, so we weren’t able to do much. So this spring and summer we are so excited to plant a sunflower field, work on a garden, butcher one of our hogs, and continue to learn how to live on our own land. Plus, I am so so excited to just be able to spend all of our time outside.

What I’m Watching/Reading
Just Finished:
The Dutch House
Started and DNF’d:
The Stories We Tell
Reading Next:
The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Society
Watching: Theo and I have started House again and are slowly watching through that. We are also watching Shark Tank.
What I’m Listening To
I’m really enjoying listening to podcasts and while I listen, I typically work on my cross-stitch sewing project! This project has 10 butterflies, and I have now finished 6 of them! I started in November of 2021.

What I’m Wearing
Ha! Stretchy pants, t-shirts, and milk stained nursing tops. Nothing much to see here! I’m at that very awkward stage where I’m way too small for the maternity clothes but not quite back into my pre-pregnancy stuff. PLUS, the seasons are changing so everything that I have out is big and warm and I’m needing a little more of the warm weather clothing. But, look at this…the difference that two weeks can make.

What I’m Doing This Weekend
The kids are starting their Spring Break this weekend, and the weather is finally going to be warm! We will mostly be staying close to home, snuggling Orion, feeding him around the clock- but we also plan to go for some hikes and visit some local playgrounds and possibly even go to the Zoo or the Ark Encounter. We have been cooped up inside for a LONG time and every single one of us is ready to GET OUT!

The Ark Encounter is amazing
Congrats on your newest addition!! I am currently listening to The Dutch house and really enjoying it.
It made my heart really happy to read that you aren’t dreading anything. 🤗🙌 So fun to see you feeling well and enjoying the newborn stage and just life in general!
