I’m a day late for this link-up, but I have been trying so hard to work on linking up with other bloggers this year. I don’t really know who is reading blogs anymore, but it seems that other bloggers are reading blogs and maybe some of their readers are reading blogs haha.
Anyways, Holly and Patty do this monthly link-up, and this one is all about Memorial Day.
Just as a reminder, Memorial Day is a day set aside to honor those who have given their lives for us in military service. It is not exactly a *celebratory* holiday, because the fact is that it’s serious that people have died to defend what our country stands for, and it kind of bothers me that we have made it into a celebration/sales holiday.
On the flip side, this weekend really is also the kick-off to summer around these parts, which *is* something to celebrate! So it can be a little bit confusing that have both a somber and celebratory weekend. Anyways! On to the questions that go with the linkup!
- How are you spending Memorial Day weekend?
Well, this week and weekend is probably the busiest of the year! We just wrapped up the school year on Thursday, today is our 11th wedding anniversary and we are going to an adoption party. Tomorrow we are hosting a huge bonfire for all the kids in my kids classes, and Sunday we are getting together with cousins after church. So we are doing A LOT this weekend! As per usual, Theo is also working the entire weekend….womp womp.
2. Favorite Ice Cream
Ok, so I’m not a huge dessert person. I don’t like cooked fruit and I don’t like dark chocolate or mint or weird fruity flavors. I’m really a very vanilla girl. If the option is strawberry ice cream, chocolate ice cream, or no ice cream…I’ll go for no ice cream. But if I could pick any flavor ever…it would be chocolate chip cookie dough.
3. Memorial Day travel or hang out at home?
We are staying home. This summer we don’t have much travel on the calendar at all, with Theo working weekends and us having a newborn.
4. Burger, hot dog, or both?
I would most likely be reaching for a burger with all the fixings but I will also eat a hot dog!
5. Favorite cookout sides?
I love creative salads and a good serving of Mac and cheese!
6. White before or after Memorial Day?
Listen. I don’t really know or follow many fashion rules. My fashion rules currently are: Can I breastfeed in it? Can I do farm chores in it? Can I be seen in public in it? Soooo, with that criteria…white is probably a no-go for me lol!
7. Memorial Day traditions?
Well, since it is our wedding anniversary, we tend to do something small to celebrate that. It’s also usually the weekend that school gets out so we are recovering from that. And it’s the opening weekend for splash pads and pools, so we often try to go to one of those!
8. Share a summer recipe
Buy a watermelon. Cut up the watermelon.

9. Parades, Fireworks or Cookouts?
I honestly don’t know of any parades, I am sure there will be annoying fireworks until 2am for the next two weeks, and I haven’t been invited to any cookouts this weekend. Maybe there will be a time in our life when we can host or we will go to one or two, but this summer is just not that season.
10. Show us your red, white and blue!
Here is my red, white and blue out on the clothesline today! It’s such a beautiful day…although VERY windy! And here is our green, purple and white school colors to represent the end of the school year!
