Friday Review: The Week Before Spring Break

Phew! We did it! We are officially on Spring Break! We haven’t had a day off of school since coming back from Christmas break on January 3rd, so we are TIRED. The two months after Spring Break are my favorite of the school year, so I’m really excited to rest and recuperate this week and then get back into the final sprint to the finish line of the school year! This past week was stuffed to the brim….

Saturday

Orion’s first birthday! Since Theo was working, we didn’t actually do much to celebrate, but we sure did enjoy spending time with our sweet boy!

Sunday

We finally celebrated Orion’s birthday with a very small party. He loved the attention.

Monday

Daylight Savings was made for farmers, and we feel that so deeply on the homestead! It feels like we have more hours in the day to get chores done! And we even fit in a walk around our back acreage. Plus, look- BABY BUNNIES.

Tuesday

Tuesday was a fun and full day! It was Theo’s birthday and we had school all day with a STEM in-house field trip. After school I took Tera over to meet baby Peter! And then in the evening we went back to school for some more of the STEM activities. We all went to bed exhausted that night!

Wednesday

On Wednesday I was back at school bright and early for the teacher portion of the STEM activities! Theo took Ori to the pediatrician, and the other three kids went over to a friends house for a playdate. Divide and conquer should be our family motto on busy weeks like these! In the afternoon we worked on all the household and homestead chores and I fit in my long run for my half marathon training. I honestly don’t know why I thought it was a good idea to sign up and train for a half marathon in this incredibly busy season of life, but I’m somehow making it work. And if I have to walk some of the half, that will be just fine with me…as long as I can finish!

Thursday

Ah, the day before Spring break when everyone is feeling pretty exhausted and burnt out, and I don’t want to cover much content in the classroom since we don’t have any homework, and it’s too cold to go outside….it makes for a messy and creative classroom!! For this activity, I had the kids making rainbows. I literally just showed them an example picture and then gave them full sheets of construction and let them have at it. I LOVED the results- they look like actual first graders made them, not a teacher who spent time precisely cutting everything out so they could glue it together. The mess was HUGE (it was about 3x worse than when I took this picture), but it was worth it. And I had a bit of fun when I made the kids clean it up- I picked 7 different kids and assigned them each a color to pick up.

Friday

Today is the first day of Spring Break, and we are heading out on two different trips this morning! I am heading to Kentucky with my sister in laws, and Theo is hanging with the kids and some cousins. I’ve got lots of last minute things to pack and then I’ll be on the road to pick up my SIL from the airport! Hopefully next week I’ll have a fun Friday Review all about our Spring Break!
