What’s Up Wednesday: May Edition

It’s hard to believe that May is already winding down and June is approaching! We are exactly one week into our summer break, and I already feel like the time is flying way too fast!! May was PACKED, so this post will help to serve as a little recap of what we were up to in May!

What We Are Eating Lately

Honestly, it doesn’t matter what we are eating- as long as we get to eat outside! I’ve mentioned before that our house is lacking in some areas- and one of those areas is that it doesn’t have a dining room (or a room that works well as a dining room). So in the winter all 6 of us literally sit around a desk in the kitchen to eat dinner. In the summer, we eat 98% of our meals outside and WE LOVE IT!

What I’m Remembering Lately

My Grandma passed away this month, 4 days before her 99th birthday. She lived a long, good life and was SO ready to go heaven. She was so sweet, so loving and truly accomplished and impacted many people in this world. I’ve been reminiscing about her and her life. One of my favorite memories/laughs with her was a couple years ago when my cousin was playing in the NFL, she was SO PROUD of him (we all were! AND, she was proud of ALL her grandchildren, but this one was BIG PROUD). She would introduce all of the family members in relation to Seth. So instead of saying, “This is my son, John”, she would say, “This is Seth’s Uncle, John”. Hahahaha. We laughed about that for months.

What I’m Loving Lately

I HAVE SUNFLOWERS GROWING! Last year my sunflower field was a total dud. I don’t think I even got a single sprout. This year, I planted over 1000 seeds and they are all growing!! I am SO excited and praying they make it all the way to the end of the summer and bloom fully.

What We’ve Been Up To Lately

What I’m Dreading Lately

Absolutely nothing!

What I’m Excited About Lately

Our homestead is thriving and I feel like we are finally finding our stride! It’s exciting to see the mulberries and the sunflower field and my garden. Yesterday we got some meat chickens (chickens raised just for meat, not eggs) and today we are looking at a potential new animal addition- any guesses what it may be?

What I’m Watching/Reading Lately

Current reads:

Old Fashioned On Purpose – such a good homestead book!

The Darling Girls – A bit dark, but I have to admit that it’s keeping me turning the pages and staying up a little bit past my bedtime!

On Friday I’m planning to publish a blog post that rounds up all the summer reading guides I’ve been pouring over! If you have a summer reading guide, drop the link below and I’m be sure to add it to my blog post!

We started watching “Mother of the Bride” on Netflix last night. Theo says it’s dumb but I am enjoying it, even though the acting is subpar!

What I’m Wearing Lately

Let’s just say that I’m fully embracing the homestead look and literally wear shorts, t-shirts and my chicken apron all day long.

What I’m Doing This Weekend

I’ll be flying to Connecticut for my Grandma’s memorial service. It will be good to see some of my cousins and aunts/uncles, and I’m sure that the celebration of life service will be beautiful. I’m a little bit nervous about flying with Orion, though! I’m just praying that everything goes smoothly!

What I’m Looking Forward to Next Month…

Absolutely nothing. As in…I’m so looking forward to having absolutely nothing on the calendar!!! We are not traveling and besides a VBS, there is nowhere we need to be. I plan to spend the time in my sunflower field, my garden, and with all of our animals outside. And family time!!! I’m so ready for family time!

And that, my friends, is a wrap on May! Here’s to lots of relaxing and reading and spending time together as a family in June!
