Here we are wrapping up August! I had to actually look at my calendar to see if I was correct that this is the last week of August and next week is SEPTEMBER? What in the world?!? We are in week two of our back to school routine and so far it’s going pretty well, with just a couple bumps in the road.
I’m linking up with What’s Up Wednesday to share a little bit about our August and all kinds of other thoughts floating around in my mind!

What We Are Eating
Lots of easy meals that don’t require me to think too much. Comfort food. The first week of school was unusually chilly for August and some of us were struggling with a sore throat/back to school germs, so I made chicken noodle soup for dinner on the first day of school. It hit the spot and was so comforting that I think this may become a new family tradition, even if it is 100 degrees out!
What I’m Reminiscing About

Tera turned 10 this month, so I’ve officially been a parent for 10 years. All those people are right- the days are long, but the years are short.

What I’m Loving
This is funny, because last month this is what I was dreading…but this month I am loving being back at school. Our routine is so much more solid, the kids aren’t bored all the time, and there is so much less sibling rivalry. Yes, it’s exhausting, but I feel like I get so much more done in the school year than I do in the summer.
What We’ve Been Up To This Month
Phew, August was busy! We ended July with a trip to the Ohio State Fair, did all the back to school shopping/teacher training/classroom prepping, had meet the teacher night, Tera turned 10, I ran a half marathon, we went on a DeValve family reunion, my sunflower field SHOWED off with in full bloom, we had the first week of school, first volleyball game, had a visit from my in-laws and will enjoy the official farewell to summer during Labor Day weekend!

What I’m Dreading
Sickness. Back to school germs. They take us out every year, and this year is already no exception.
What I’m Excited About

I’m excited about the school year! I have a lot of nerves going into the year as it puts A LOT on my plate. I teach 1st grade on Tuesdays and Thursdays, then homeschool a 5th grader, 2nd grader and Kindergartner on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. All while juggling a baby and a husband who works weekends and a second job at school on his days off. It’s a lot! But I’m excited for this school year- I have a great group of students and I’m absolutely loving the stages my kids are in, so this is kind of a little sweet spot for us.
What I’m Reading
These are the two books I’m working on right now:

You can read my August Book Review for some more of what I’ve been reading lately.
What I’m Wearing
I’ve had to pull out the professional clothes this month and get used to dressing up again! In August and September, I wear a lot of dresses and skirts to school since it’s still so warm out!

What I’m Doing This Weekend
It’s Labor Day weekend, and we have been invited to a birthday party at a splash pad! There is also a little grass strip “airport” nearby that does an airshow, so I think we will pack a picnic and head over to watch the air show (although I think we could see some of it from our house).
What I’m Looking Forward to Next Month

We have two weekend trips on the calendar, so those should be fun! September will have a lot of volleyball games and the cross country season will start for my boys! It will be lovely to get our back to school routine established in September and feel a little more settled and not so chaotic! And we will be doing a spending freeze September, so I’m excited to see how that goes!
I really can’t believe that this is a wrap on August! What a month! September, here we come…

I remember thinking the same thing when my kids were older— those people were so right when they told me the days were long but the years were short. It looks like you had a really lovely August. Here’s hoping the germs aren’t too bad this year!
