Let’s Look- Travel Bucket List

You know, I thought writing about this topic would be easy, but once I sat down to write, I feel like I’m at a loss!

I have been to 15 countries in the world, and 13 of those I visited before I turned 18. Growing up, we had to add extra pages to my passport because we traveled enough that I didn’t have enough pages for new stamps! And now…I don’t even have a passport! The younger me would be shocked and maybe even slightly ashamed, but the current me is ok with it. Theo and I have really put down roots, and those roots have grown deep. I’m not saying that we don’t want to travel, but the logistics and cost of traveling with four kids is a big hurdle in our life! And, honestly, I’m ok with that. I’m not sad that we’ve built a life that we love and that we don’t feel like we need to escape from.

We’ve also learned over the years that we are not big beach people, and we are not big luxury destination people. Give us a good cabin with some really great hiking, some whitewater rafting or tubing/canoeing, and some high adrenaline and we are IN.

Here are some places that we would love to visit:

  • The National Parks out West (we would love to visit all the National Parks!)
  • Washington, D.C.
  • Papua New Guinea (I would love to visit my cousin and his family who live there)
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • Any country in Africa
  • Brazil

Basically- we would love to go anywhere! Most of these places I want to visit because I know someone there, or I know about the place because someone I love has told me a lot about the place! I think Theo and I would travel almost anywhere if given the chance, and we would bring our kids along if could. If someone said they would pay for travel to and from anywhere in the world, I would absolutely pick my “home” country of Niger. I spent most of my first 18 years living there and have only been back once in 2011. I hope that I can take my kids there to visit one day.

Anyways, sometimes it’s fun to dream! What destinations are on your travel bucket list?

We are trying to figure out a trip next year since we’ll have our first graduating high school and all kids have significant birthdays (18,16,13). We have talked about NYC because of Broadway, Washington D.C., Orlando, the Carolina’s, and Nashville. Alaska would be amazing but guessing really expensive. I personally want to go to the Ark and I would love to go to Maine or one of the nearby states. We also really love Branson, MO. We are not doing any trips this summer other than my husband and I getting away to a tiny cabin for our anniversary.

We live fairly close to the Ark and it’s a great day trip for us! We are also hoping to do D.C. later this fall. Theo and I went to Chattanooga last year for a wedding and we really loved the area and found lots of fun things to do around there! Maine and Branson are also places we would love to go! Let me know what you end up deciding!
