Mundane Glories

Do you know those moments in your day? The ones that seem like nothing, but then you look back at pictures and realize THOSE were the moments? The little ones that built up to make a day, a week, a month, a season…a life?

Lately I’ve been trying to capture those moments a little bit more, and remind myself that “these are the days”. The days I once prayed for and longed for, the days that I know I will miss!

I’m joining up with Friday Favorites today, so let’s look at some of the Mundane Glories that came my way this week!

Thrifting

One of my co-workers and friends always compliments my work outfits, and she always laughs when I tell her it’s all thrifted! Seriously, 90% of my wardrobe is thrifted. I finally took her thrifting with me last summer, and now she’s an absolute thrifting queen, and asked me if I wanted to go again with her this summer! We hit up our favorite Valley Thrift and found a great thrift haul! We didn’t buy the orange matching studded slides, but I’m kind of regretting it. Who can pass up such a unique find?

VBS

While we were thrifting, the middle two boys were living it up at VBS! They have a blast every year and they especially love the party at the end of the week when families are invited to hear them sing!

Saturday Day Date

I still can’t get over the fact that Theo gets to be home on Saturdays. It’s a complete and total game changer for our family. On Saturday, Theo found a school sale he wanted to go to, so we dropped the kids off at my parents at 8am with coupons to Waffle House and headed over to the sale. We ended up finding a lot of big stuff (teacher desks, large printer, etc) and had to take it all the way to school (the opposite direction of where the kids were). At the same time, my Mom called and said that they had mixed up the tickets for bowling and couldn’t go until AFTER lunch and they would just keep the kids until 2 or so. WHAT? 8-2 on a Saturday with Theo? Abundant blessings, I tell ya!!! We borrowed my parents car so they could have the van, and their car was spotless. I felt like I was flying in a private jet.

Library Time

On Monday we hit up two libraries and as I was getting the kids loaded in the van, I finally felt able to admit that we have a problem….SO MANY BOOKS! Haha.

We also had an “incident” at the library that just about killed me inside. We were trying to collect our Summer Reading Program prizes. There was a big table with all the prizes laid out on it, and Ori kept touching various prizes. He wasn’t being bad, but he is 2. Anyways, the librarian got pretty annoyed with him and stood up abruptly to tell him NO quite forcefully (which I felt was out of line…), then when she proceeded to sit down, she completely missed her chair and fell on the floor…and the chair when rolling into the prize table and knocked ALL the prizes on the floor. She was ok, and she was polite about it, but I could tell she just wanted our family to be done and gone. I didn’t really know what to do, and I was already feeling flustered AND my Mama Bear hackles were on the rise because of how she spoke to Orion, and then when she fell I just completely froze. I keep replaying it in my head 1000x of what I should have done differently, or how it was or wasn’t my fault. I also chuckle every so often, because while it was *funny*….it was one of those…funny things, you know?

Anyways, on a lighter note…I found this graphic so funny! What are you?

Flash Flood

This is not a favorite, but we had a flash flood on our property on Monday night around 10pm. It was scary!!! There was no water there one minute, and then two minutes later the water flowed over the road and went crashing through our yard and our entire property was two feet underwater! The rabbits and pigs were literally swimming…thankfully Theo got the rabbits out right away and we were able to get to pigs to dry ground fairly quickly. The craziest thing is that the flood went away almost as quickly as it appeared. It was just puddles within an hour. It was WILD, and one of the craziest things that has ever happened to us. We are so thankful that the water didn’t touch our house, and that all our animals were safe. It could have been SO much worse!

Friend Day

On Wednesday, all of the kids had a friend over. It was so fun! There was crafts and swinging and mud….lots and lots of mud!

Rainbow

On Wednesday night we had a pretty fierce storm blow in! But as I was laying the kids down for bed I spotted this rainbow. It was STUNNING. And what was so cool was that the storm was still passing and I could see lightening bolts coming down to the ground every so often.

Backpacking Trip

Theo and the kids left yesterday for their annual backpacking trip! I can’t wait to hear all about it when they get back! Meanwhile, I stayed home and I’m today a 24 hour “reading retreat”- where I just sit and read as much as possible for 24 hours!

And that was some of the Mundane Glories of our past week! What about you? Have you spotted any Mundane Glories recently? I’d love to hear what they are!
