Wednesday Hodgepodge 10/15

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite link-ups! Joyce comes up with such creative and interesting questions every week, and it’s so fun to read what others have written, too!

1. Do you make an effort to see/hear live music? Last time you went somewhere for the live music?

Um, nope. I have so much noise in my life, that if I have a free evening or moment, I crave quiet or good conversation…neither of which is possible with live music!

That being said, for my 15th birthday, my parents got me tickets to the Creation Festival (a Christian music festival). I LOVED it so much and was so excited to see all my favorite bands/artists and even get in line to meet some of them. So I think somewhere deep in my personality is a love for live music- it just doesn’t quite fit in with the current season, and I am 100% ok with that!

2.According to HGTV the colors of the year for 2026 are mostly decided. Top paint companies declare a color of the year, and decorators will incorporate that into their new year home and room designs. Here’s what’s on tap in terms of paint trends for 2026 (check out the link here to see photos)

  • Sherwin Williams-universal khaki (inspired by heavy canvas and outdoor gear)
  • Behr-hidden gem (a confident shade of teal)
  • Valspar-warm eucylyptus (a warm sliver tinted green)
  • Dutch Boy-melodious ivory (a honey tinted beige)
  • Glidden-warm mahogany (a classic brick red)
  • Krylon-matte coffee bean
  • Clark and Kensington -Hazelnut Crunch (warm reddish-brown)
  • Graham and Brown-Divine Damson (cherry red with a subtle violet undertone)
  • Dunn and Edwards-midnight garden (the green that works everywhere)

First question-did you know there were so many different paint manufacturers? Which color on the list most appeals to you in terms of your own decorating style? Do you have plans to do any painting in your home in the coming year, and if so might you choose a color from this list?

I did know that there were a lot of paint manufacturers, because after flipping and painting the entirety of 4 houses (during our rental property era), I have stood in front of the paint displays at Home Depot/Lowe’s and felt…overwhelmed. Why are there SO many options? Who knew there were so many different shades of WHITE? And then you have the different brands/types of paint.

I love a bold color wall, and I love using pops of color throughout my home. I would like to paint my kitchen cabinets a lighter version of Hidden gem, and I love both the Midnight Garden and the warm eucalyptus! I am not so much a fan of the browns and yellows.

Now, forget painting walls, which color name appeals to you most?

Midnight Garden really stood out to me as I perused the list! I always wonder who picks color names. Do they sit around a board meeting table and debate what to call it? Or do they have one of those big charts with descriptive words- you know the ones that you pick your birth-day, birth-month and it gives you a “fairy name” or something? Do they use those to pick colors?

3. What’s something in your life you have to do-watch-or participate in that’s about as exciting as ‘watching paint dry’?

This sounds terrible, but sitting through reading groups in my 1st grade classroom. First of all- I LOVE to hear/see kids read, so don’t take this the wrong way. But every school day, I listen to four different groups read the SAME story, stumble over the SAME words and it’s not my favorite thing to do. I think that anyone who has taught a kid how to read understands what I’m saying, and won’t assume I’m a terrible teacher because listening to kids sound out words doesn’t bring me immense joy.

4 . Tuesday, October 14th is/was National Dessert day…did you/will you celebrate? Tell us how? What’s your absolute favorite dessert. Yes, just one. I know!!

We DID celebrate, but I didn’t know it was dessert day! We celebrated because it was Kiah’s 9th birthday! We had ice cream cake and chocolate chip cookies. My favorite dessert is Cinnamon rolls, although I know that is usually a breakfast food and not a dessert.

5. Perhaps today is the day I will __________________________________.

….go for a run and actually feel like I’m hitting my stride (I’m in a running slump AND a reading slump, it’s awful!)

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Just a couple hours ago I did something that was NOT on my radar just one week ago, but it was pretty big…I signed up to take a course to become a certified doula! I’ve always kind of wanted to do this, but I thought I would do it when my kids got older. Well, someone asked me to support them at their birth and I decided it was time to take some actual classes, not just use my own experience. WHAT! Im so excited, honestly.

I’m not really a brown or yellow person when it comes to paint (or clothing for that matter). Our house has lots of shades of blue and green… and as I finish typing this sentence I realized that my bedroom walls (where I”m writing) are brown! LOL It’s not my favorite though and I’d happily change it if there weren’t so many HUGE pieces of furniture in here that I could never move myself. And oh yes, that teaching kids to read/ listening to them stumbling over stories aloud can be so hard to sit through.

I love the colors I’ve seen you share in your home! Our home was painted when we moved in, and it surprisingly has some colors that I probably would have picked for myself!

My favorite dessert is also cinnamon rolls. Have you seen the hack to make them out of King’s Hawaiian rolls. Not as healthy as making your own but they were delicious! I have wanted to be a midwife since I was a little girl (doctor before I knew about midwives) but I would want to be a traditional one, not one in the hospital setting but it feels so risky! I have thought about becoming a doula too but wonder how difficult it would be to find people who want a doula. I did get to be at my friend’s home birth and it was amazing! Good for you for taking the course!

Ooooh that sounds so yummy! I think one thing I love about cinnamon rolls is that I know how much intentionality it took to make the real good kind.
