Hezekiah James is TWO!

Hezekiah James turned TWO on Sunday, October 14th!! I cannot believe that my baby is two and that he is about to be a big brother! It feels like he was JUST born and these past two years have just flown by. Kiah is such a delight to our entire household, and we have loved watched him learn and grow these past two years. It’s hard to believe this is the same kid that received a failure to thrive diagnosis. I remember how hard those first few months were, and how much worry and fear consumed me during those early days. I’m so thankful for how far God has brought our Kiah’s body and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for our little man!

Yes, we recycle birthday bags (see the pink bag above?). And yes, that is in fact the most hideous birthday cake you have ever seen. I had four open containers of icing so I mixed them together and it was not the most pleasant color. And then I let Tera have free reign on the sprinkles. And you know what? It made us all happy. No one was stressed. Kiah was delighted. Tera was delighted. So go right ahead and pin that on Pinterest.

Height/Weight: 22.8 pds (3%, but nobody is too concerned) 32 inches tall (17%)

Eating: Kiah eats like a man! He is rarely picky, although he’s not very into vegetables. We are consistently surprised at some of the things that he wants to eat (he was really into my salad the other day, and he loved my Mom’s coleslaw earlier this summer). He eats a good amount and loves, loves snacking!

Sleeping: Well, if the early bird gets the worm…Kiah will grow up to get LOTS of worms. He sleeps fantastic through the night, but always wakes up exactly when the sun crests the horizon. Thankfully, this now means after 7, but during the summer, he was up at 6 am every day. Thankfully, he still takes a good 1.5-2 hour nap and crashes hard at the end of the day. Once he’s asleep, he’s out, and once he’s awake, he is ready to go!

Clothing/Diapers: Kiah-man is in size 18 month clothing (and some of it is still pretty big on him). We are still using a mix of cloth diapers and disposable. He seems interested in the potty, but mostly he just likes to follow everyone to the bathroom and flush the toilet for them. He does ask to sit on the potty after Tera gets off, but so far he hasn’t put two and two together that sitting on the potty means going potty. I’m way more lax with potty training him than I was with Tera lol. He’ll do it when he’s ready!

Personality: Oh, sweet, sweet, King. He has always been my little man, and while is wild and rambunctious, he is also Mommy’s little buddy and I wouldn’t change that for anything. He’s very quiet (more on that in a minute) and likes to observe things and make his own path. He loves to play with Tera and his Daddy, but he’s also very content to just play by himself with cars/trucks or flip through books. He is a total HAM and makes the best faces. He’s laid back and pretty much always calm/content.

Loves:

  • Tera
  • Wrestling
  • Eating
  • Exploring outside
  • Trucks/Cars/Anything with sirens
  • Running/Jumping

Dislikes:

  • Bath Time
  • Having Dirt on his hands (but he doesn’t mind it anywhere else!)

Speech Update:Kiah has never hit his milestones early, and while I’ve usually just let it go, there are some (missed) milestones that have been a bit concerning to me. One of these was walking, which is ironic now because he is about 13 months ahead in his gross motor skills now. The second one of these milestones is his speech. I wrote an entire  blog post about it here, and after writing it we decided to pursue testing to see if he qualified for speech therapy. Well, he was tested and he is about 11 months behind in speech, which qualifies him for therapy. He meets once a week with a speech therapist, who talks to him a lot and plays with him, then gives me some helpful tips and pointers on how to encourage his speech. He still says less than 20 words, and never two words together. He is VERY effective at communicating, but not with words. Since starting therapy, he has started to say some more words and at least try to to repeat sounds after us, but it still sounds like his mouth is full of gravel. I’m so encouraged to see improvement, but know that he still has a bit of work to do before he will be talking.
