Let’s Chat!

In an effort to get over my writers block, I am simply sitting down to type up what is on my mind. I am picturing us- me and you, sitting down at a little coffee shop or Panera bread, unzipping our coats as the snow and slush mixes outside. I have a chai latte that never meets my expectation. I would also probably have a cinnamon roll. What would you be having?

I’m sure we would start out by saying “How are you?” and we would both say something pretty cliche like “alright.”, “doing well”, “can’t complain”. But then as we begin to ask how day to day things are going, I’m sure we would start to be a bit more real about the ups and downs and the wins and challenges of life right now.

Throughout the course of our conversation, here are some things that are on my heart that I would love to talk about:

  • My kiddos and how funny they are. Like how Ezra was in the middle of a diaper change and Dad got a phone call, so Ezra took the break opportunity and he climbed up on our small plastic slide and proceeded to PEE DOWN THE SLIDE. Believe me, he considers this one of his greatest accomplishments in his two years of life.
  • I would probably cry about how I’m in a better space mentally now than I was for the last 10 months. And what a huge difference that makes for all of LIFE. Listen, I’m not like BEST EVER LIFE right now, but I’m like “Wow, I’m actually not in a complete pit right now and I’m so thankful because I know what that pit looked like from the inside and right now I’m not deep in it”.
  • I would talk about teaching and the opportunities that might be coming to me next year!
  • I would talk about Theo’s job and some of the stories that he brings home. I would assess if you were a safe person to speak to about the police/race topic and might vent in frustration for a few minutes and ask your experiences/opinions on how you have experienced/perceived that. Sometimes I just need someone to listen to me and nod their head. To think critically with me and help me work through some of the bigger areas where I see a big disconnect and can’t make sense of the points being made.
  • I would probably talk about some books I’ve read lately and ask you if you’ve been reading! I’m currently reading a book called “The 15:17 to Paris”- about the three friends who stopped a terrorist on a train to Paris. I don’t think its my favorite book/genre, but it has me turning pages!
  • I love to talk goals- it’s February but I’m still excited about some of our 2021 goals, plus I love to set goals at the beginning of each month, too. We are aiming for 1000 hours outside this year, and I’m tracking the miles I’ve run this year, so those are some continuous goals that I have.

Of course, I would make sure to not talk the whole time! What would you love to chat about? What is on your heart and your mind right now?

I love this post! After chai lattes not meeting my expectations for awhile, now I’m learning about where to get the best London Fog. (So far it’s at home…) Praise the Lord you’re out of the deepest part of the pit! I’m looking forward to meeting you somewhere besides the bottom sometime soon. <3
