April Highlights

April was quite the month around here, and I wanted to recap it real quick before more time goes flying by! April had some high highs and some low lows and all the every day stuff in between!

9 Highlights from April 2021:

  1. Family Hikes ARE BACK! So are wildflowers. And poison ivy. Ask me how I know. Ha.

2. In 2019, I signed up for The Gospel Coalition conference that was supposed to happen in 2020. That did not happen, but it was reschedule for April of 2021! I got to go with a group of good friends from church and we had a wonderful time. As with most conferences, it was like drinking from a fire hose, but I left with some good encouragement and book recommendations.

3. It is undeniable that even though winter in Ohio is rough, Spring in Ohio is just GLORIOUS!

4. Of course, Spring in OH does not necessarily mean that winter is over. We all act shocked when it snows in April, but it pretty much snows in April every single year!

5. Tera was invited to a girls tea party with all the girlies from our church plant. I helped serve the tea and it was such a blast. My friend Shannan hosted and she is one of those people with the gift of touching something and making it look beautiful. Her home is straight out of a catalog and her tea parties are perfect!

6. In April, we also opened up our Airbnb. We worked on cleaning and getting it set up for about a week. Then we listed it and started having guests stay! It’s been a steep learning curve, even though we have done this before. I’m not going to lie…we had one woman stay who wrote a scathing review (and in our opinion rather inaccurate and unfair) and I am just hoping that people will still book our place after reading that very public comment. It was a good reminder to me that unkind words come at a price. I feel so tender and very hurt after that exchange, and I’ve had to fight to not let it deeply bother me as I go about my days!

7. We’ve been loving our park scavenger hunt! There is a list of 51 parks that we are trying to find and play at. We have to take a picture in a certain location at each park holding a specific sign, then submit it to the app. In the end, we win a family picnic or something like that! I honestly thought that we would have been WAY further into the challenge by now, but we have done about 12/51. I know what we will be doing this summer!

8. The MOST EXCITING part of April was having my parents visit!! We haven’t seen them since May of 2019, so this was a most anticipated week! We had a wonderful time together and it was SUCH A TREAT to have them around.

9. Unfortunately, April ended on a low note when I came down with COVID (and Theo shortly after me). We are mostly fully recovered now, but it wasn’t fun being sick!

We were pretty much down and out for a solid 2 weeks, and then we still had to observe quarantine for several weeks after we recovered! So the last few weeks of April and the first few weeks of May are basically a blur in my mind!

May is my FAVORITE month of the year and I’m so glad it’s here! This month I turn 30, we celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary, we are wrapping up the school year, and the weather is finally BEAUTIFUL!
