I’m linking up with the Hodgepodge today – rather late- but better late than never, I guess! I am hoping to get back into the swing of blogging now that summer break has arrived!

1. Do you like your name? Are you named after someone (grandparent, etc)? If you have children how did you choose their names?
Oh, I have an unusually long answer when it comes to my name. For those of you who are consistent blog readers and have only ever read my name, you may not realize that it’s not pronounced Suz-anne as it is typically pronounced in America. Instead, it’s pronounced Suz-on, as it would be said in a French accent. That’s because, since my parents were missionaries in a French speaking country, they wanted to choose a name that could be said in both English and French. But it turns out that my name has always been pronounced the French way.
This has been a dilemma my whole life- do I correct someone immediately when they first mispronounce my name and risk sounding snooty, or do I just let the mispronunciation go and then deal with a later embarrassing conversation when I eventually tell them they’ve been pronouncing my name wrong? I’ve never solved this problem in my 35 years! Usually, though, if I’m giving my name on the phone or to a receptionist or ordering a meal at a restaurant or coffee shop, I mispronounce my own name so that it’s easier for them to spell it.
I also have a funny answer for the names of my children.
Tera was chosen because that was the name of the village that I lived in as a child. It is in Niger and holds a lot of meaning and significance for me, especially as I will probably never be able to go back there.
Hezekiah is a strong King in the Bible, and we knew before we even had kids that we wanted to name our first son Hezekiah. We do call him Kiah, though.
Ezra- it took us a long time to come up with this one, and we had a whole list going for a while there. We finally settled on Ezra because it had biblical significance, and we didn’t know hardly any other Ezra’s. Now every other kid from ages 0-8 is named Ezra hahaha.
Orion- We kind of veered away from the biblical significance, although Orion is mentioned in the Bible. Instead, we chose his name in a completely superficial way. We realized after child #3 was born that our children’s initials spelled THE – only one letter away from my husbands name, THEO. So we decided that if we ever had a 4th child, we would choose a name that began with O. Well, upon learning that he was a boy, we realized that our list of names starting with O was significantly short, and Orion was our favorite of all of them. I think it’s a strong, unique name, but I also recognize that as an adult he may want a more normal name- so his middle name is an easy fall-back- Daniel.
2. A piece of red velvet cake, a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a slice of blueberry pie? You can only have one…which will you choose? If you could pick any red, white, or blue dessert other than those listed here, what would you choose?
A scoop of vanilla ice cream!
My favorite sweet treat is M&Ms so I would be happy with some red, white and blue M&Ms!
3. What’s a job you’d like to try for just one day?
Working in a library or bookshop.
4. Any patriotic decor in your home currently or coming up this summer?
I do not have any patriotic decor up- not because I am not patriotic, but because I don’t usually decorate much for any holidays. I might hang a garland on the mantel or buy some patriotic paper plates or napkins, but otherwise I keep my decor pretty low-key!
5. It’s the end of May, so let’s exercise our brains. Sum up your month with an acrostic using the word MAY. We can do it!!
M- Magnificently full
A- Absolutely insane
Y- Yowsa I can’t believe all that we did in that month!
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I hate to be the person that complains about the weather, but CAN IT PLEASE STOP RAINING NOW? We’ve had a few days here and there that the sun has come out, but mostly for the last 10 days it has rained nearly nonstop. It’s really put a damper on this “summer” vibe that I’m trying to establish here!
