Well, yesterday I went out to my sunflower field and picked off the very last blooms. The 2026 sunflower field is now done.
It was my worst year yet, to be honest. It was very chaotic, and not in a cute way. More of an overgrown/homeless type of way. That’s ok, though- I did grow some sunflowers and I was able to host 3 sunflower nights, so it wasn’t a total loss. I just hope next year can be a little bit better!

May 9- planted the field
We planted over 7000 seeds!
Also, I don’t think I ever shared this story on the blog (because, haters gonna hate)- but our planting day ended abruptly with a chainsaw accident. Everyone was ok in the end- it didn’t even need stitches- but there was a lot of blood and a couple minutes of major panic. Thank the Lord for a gloves and thumbnails or it could have been much worse!
May 29- we have sprouts!
Every year I’m shocked when flowers start to grow! You have to understand- when we plant the seeds, I basically just scatter them on the ground in a line and then Theo comes behind me with soil and covers them in a thin layer of soil. Sunflowers are so kind and forgiving, they still honor us with growth, even if we don’t spend a ton of time/effort getting them into the ground!
July 10- First Bloom Spotted
As you can see, I really neglected to weed the field and it showed. I should have spent more time out there weeding and I probably would have had a much more successful yield!
July- Weeding
I tried to spend 10 minutes every day out there weeding. I didn’t make it out every day, but I did do it pretty consistently!
August- Officially “In Bloom”
Sunflower Night- Tera’s Birthday
For Tera’s birthday, we had a bunch of girls over and decided to make sunflower bouquets. Ok, so what I had in mind is not how the party went, but that is ok! I asked my friend Brittaney if I could have some cut zinnia’s from her garden and she provided all of these AMAZING blooms. GASP. SO PRETTY.
When Tera’s friends arrived, they were way more interested in hanging out in Tera’s room and just talking/laughing/doing makeup than they were in making flower bouquets, which was fine with me. Except that I had alllll these flowers and they were SO PRETTY and then it looked like it was going to start raining. So I coaxed the girls out and had them make sweet arrangements. I was going to have them go cut fresh sunflowers to add to their vases, but since the interest in flowers was low, I just stuck with the flowers that were already cut. They turned out beautifully, and the girls went back to hanging out and giggling together inside.
Sunflower Nights- Friends
I hosted two sunflower nights later in the summer and just invited a bunch of friends over! I almost had to cancel because it rained SO much and it was so wet and muddy, but I decided at the last minute to just carry on and tell everyone to bring rain/muck boots! This time we did go out to the field and everyone got to cut their own sunflowers and zinnias, then head back to the patio and make bouquets.
There is something so special about having people over and sharing the beauty and abundance that the Lord has given us! I LOVE these nights!
