March Book Review

It’s book review day! I have so many great books lined up on my shelf, and this month I was able to get through three of them! I’m not going to lie…Theo’s time at the police academy has been downright insane and I feel like I’m barely treading water over here. The blog has for sure taken a back seat…I know it seems like I’m still posting often, but mostly I’m just trying to spit out words that aren’t even in my brain because my brain is just trying to manage. Anywho. Back to book reading.

The Matchmaker

Remember back in July when I mentioned that I would give this author one more chance and then completely give up on her? The last two I read by her were pretty raunchy and I just didn’t even enjoy the plot or character development. This one was MUCH BETTER. In the book, one woman is known for her matchmaking…she can just see whether or not people belong today, and is famous for setting them up. Except for herself. Her marriage is all wrong and life throws some curves at her. Overall, I did enjoy this one although it had some ethical issues that bothered me as a Christian. The whole idea of “it’s ok if you cheat/leave/don’t feel content because it isn’t love” really bothers me, and it was one of the main themes of the book. So….I don’t think I will be picking up any more of this particular author. Bummer.

Long Mile Home

Wow. This was an incredible book. It was fairly long and VERY detailed, but I did enjoy all the detail thrown in. This book was all about the day before, during and after the Boston Marathon Bombing. It was a very candid look at the lives of several people who lived through this horrific event. Even though this was only a few years ago, I didn’t know many of the details surrounding it, and I was absolutely fascinated by the entire story. I highly recommend this book!

When I Don’t Desire God

I’ve been working through this one all month as ‘homework’ for a ladies conference at our church. This is not the kind of book that I cannot read with any background noise or kids around, so it’s taken me a long time. I usually sit down with my journal and pen in hand to write down quotes and main thoughts. It is such a great book about how to find and choose joy in God, even when our circumstances don’t provide joy for us (and even when they do!). It is a book that I will have to pick up and read again and again before I can soak up all the information provided in it, but it’s SO, SO good.

And that’s all for March! You can check out my other book reviews here:

Have you read any of these books? What are you reading now?
