Day in the Life: Winter Edition

Come along with me and see a day in the life! It’s the middle of February, which is my *least* favorite time of the year, but as I reflected on this Day in the Life, I was remarkably encouraged by all the beautiful things that happen over the course of one day.

This was a typical, slightly boring stay at home Mom day. In fact, my van battery was dead and I couldn’t have left home even if I wanted to! Sometimes that is actually a blessing in disguise because I am forced to be home and be productive :).

So…here we go!

6am- my alarm goes off. I fed Ori a bottle and got him back to sleep, and came out to my desk around 6:20. Theo had just left for work before I got up.

I start with my devotions and usually spend 20-40 minutes reading, studying and praying. I am LOVING my Bible/devotional routine this year since I abandoned the “reading through the Bible in a year” thing…I’ll probably write a whole blog post on that soon!

Around 7, I switch to some computer work. I usually try to spend some time working on upcoming blog posts. The kids also usually wake up sometime around 7 and they love to congregate around me. Today I had four humans and four chicks joining me! Yes, one pooped ON my computer. Gross.

Around 8am, I close down all the computer things and start working on breakfast. I also try to get some chores done like making my bed, starting a fire, switching over the laundry, putting away the dishes, etc. The kids are usually working on some creative pursuit…

At 9am, our school alarm goes off and we begin the chaos of homeschool! I have a 3rd grader, a 1st grader, a pre-K, and a master destroyer….

School typically takes an hour or two and after school is finished, everyone is free to do their own thing. Around 10:30, I got Ori down for a nap and as soon as he fell asleep I jumped on the treadmill for a quick run.

I had wanted to do more than 2 miles, but Ori woke up and I needed to go grab him. While I cooled down, I did a couple minutes on this bead painting.

…and then I went out to feed the chickens. Yes, it was like 11:30am and I was just then getting around to the poor chickens.

Around noon, I got lunch for the kids and then after lunch I told them they had to go play outside. When they went out, I got everything cleaned up from lunch, washed the dishes and swept the floors and tidied up the house a bit.

Kiah asked me to come out and play some basketball with him, so I went outside and couldn’t believe how beautiful of a day it was!!!

I filled chicken and rabbit waters and feeders and then realized that I could spent some time outside working on sorting baby clothes- the baby clothes smashed into a cube was cracking me up! Kiah got picked up for basketball practice while Tera and Ezra played outside.

We headed inside and Ori went down for a second nap while Tera took a shower and Ezra played inside. Kiah came back from basketball practice and I set to work folding a bunch of laundry.

Theo got home from work around 6, and I was super busy in the kitchen packing school lunches for the next day and making some dinner. I usually wash up any dishes that are lingering around the kitchen at this point, too.

After dinner, I ALWAYS forget to take pictures, but the whole family works on chores. The kids do dishes, laundry, feeding the cats and sweeping the floors while Theo and I put away left overs and monitor/help as needed (a lot of help is needed lol). We then usually pick an evening activity to do together as a family. I think on this particular night we played some Dutch Blitz.

Then I put Ori to bed while Theo wrangles teeth brushing/bedtime and reads to the older three. They typically go to bed at 8:00 and Theo and I are usually in our own bed by 9:00, with lights out by 10:00.

And that’s a wrap on a Day in the Life!
