Week in the Life: Winter Edition

Yesterday I published a Day in the Life, but I always like to follow those types of blog posts with a snapshot of what a week in the life looks like as well. Sometimes when a blogger publishes a Day in the Life, it can feel like a highlight reel and I often wonder if they are that productive every single day. In some cases, I think they are…but in some cases (like mine) I have VERY productive days and then some days that are not as productive. I have days that we don’t ever leave the house and then I have days when we are gone from 7am to 7pm. I have days that are very focused on my family and then some days that are very focused on my job.

So here is what a typical week in our life looks like:

Monday

Theo works and is gone for about 12 hours

Tera and Kiah have a “homeschool” day where we spend about 2-4 hours working on schoolwork

Kiah has a basketball game every Monday night

Monday is usually a heavy chore/baking day as I’m prepping for the busy week ahead. I’m often making granola, bread and spending a good chunk of time folding and putting away laundry.

Tuesday and Thursday

Tuesday and Thursday are school days! The whole family aims to leave the house at 7am to be in place at school by 7:30. Students begin to arrive in my classroom at 7:45 and from then on it’s always a blur! I have a short lunch break around 11:30, but it’s usually GO GO GO until 3:00 when everyone has been dismissed. At that time, I have to balance my teacher hat and my Mom hat as my kids come racing into my classroom with all their after school needs, requests, stories and empty stomachs šŸ™‚ I try to get in an hour or so of cleaning my classroom, lesson planning, copying, meetings and emails before heading home around 4:30. Theo begins his day at school at 7:30 and walks the halls, has meetings, plans security stuff, finds any odd job that needs to be done and does carline drop off and dismissal. He usually grabs the kids and takes them home around 3:30.

Once I get home, it’s usually an easy dinner and then chores, evening activity and bedtime for everyone. Tuesdays and Thursdays are not days that I do anything at home except the basics.

Wednesday

The only day of the week that we are all home and no one has to go to work!

Tera and Kiah have homeschool work to do, and we try to knock it out in the morning before 11am.

Wednesdays are the only day that I have childcare help, so I am often trying to fit in any appointments, friend dates, catching up on blogging, etc. Theo usually manages the main load of the kids and what they need on Wednesdays.

Wednesday afternoon we try to do something fun together as a family. Sometimes this looks like loading the wood shed but sometimes it looks like a hike or playing a game together or going to a park.

Friday

Theo is back to work and is gone for about 12 hours

Tera and Kiah have a homeschool day, so we spend a couple hours working on that.

Friday is often a field trip day or staff meeting day once a month.

I am often catching up on chores that I wasn’t able to get to since Monday.

Saturday

Theo is at work – you know the deal- gone for 12 hours šŸ˜‰

Tera has a morning basketball game

Saturday is nice because I don’t have to do any homeschooling OR classroom teaching. The kids mostly “free play” all day. Winter is tough because we are mostly inside all day.

Sometimes we will have something else on the calendar like a baby shower or birthday party, but this is maybe 2x a month. Honestly, weekends in the winter are pretty boring for our family!

Sunday

Theo is at work, again.

The kids and I head off to church around 10am. We typically leave around 12:30.

We usually go to my parents house for lunch and spend a few hours there in the afternoon. My parents have been overseas for the last 6 weeks, so we have just been coming back to our house and spending the afternoon here.

In the evening, we go to small group at someone’s house. Well, we are supposed to go to small group, but we have had so much illness these past couple weeks that we have missed a lot of church and small group. Theo leaves work and meets us there. It makes for a long Sunday, but we really want to prioritize Theo being able to meet with other believers from our church.

And that is what a typical week in our home (winter edition) looks like!
