What’s Up Wednesday: October 2024

Happy, happy end of October! I’m joining all the link-up ladies for this month’s mini review of October called What’s Up Wednesday. If you are ever looking for some more blogs to follow, this one is the link-up for you!

What We Are Eating Lately:

We are eating a lot of pork! This year, we raised four pigs and just recently sent them to butcher and now have almost 400 pounds of pork meat in our freezer! Pretty soon our sheep will also be joining them. Today I’m throwing a rump roast in the crockpot to cook all day. We will eat it with buttered/cheesy pasta on the side.

Timehop Lately:

Lots of throwbacks of my Kiah-man since he celebrated his 8th birthday this month!

Something I’m Loving:

Are we all tired of hearing me say how much I love our Wednesday hikes? Hiking in the fall is perfection! Last week we were passed by a group a people that I’m 99% sure were staking out for a proposal. It was the PERFECT day for one!

Something I’m Not Enjoying:

Sometimes being a teacher is hard! It’s a lot of long hours and it can be physically and emotionally demanding! I sometimes really dread checking my email.

What We’ve Been Up to in October:

Enjoying Cedarville University homecoming and a trip to the One Dollar Book Swap

Kiah’s 8th birthday + party at a bike pump track

Going to the Waynesville Fall Festival on a school field trip:

Watching the 1000 acre field across from our harvest get harvested (yes, my house is SO dusty now)…

Enjoying a visit from Grandpa and Grandma Hines

Hitting up trunk or treat at our church…

Taking an overnight trip to Great Wolf Lodge..

Going to Vintage Market Days with Corinne and Peter

Enjoying my new phone with portrait mode! I’ve had an iPhone 8 for four years now haha..it was time for an upgrade…

What I’m Watching/Reading:

October was a great reading month for me! Here is just a sampling of what I read. I wrote my whole monthly book review in this blog post here: October 2024 reads

What I’m Wearing:

For school, I typically wear a dress or dress pants and a nice top (my Mom would call it a blouse). When I go out in public, I typically wear jeans and a t-shirt or nice (but comfy) top. And at home I’m usually in sweatpants and hoodies haha!

Do you love my pencil shoes? I mean…I can totally get away with them as a first grade teacher, right? I got SO many compliments on them. Like, more compliments than I’ve ever gotten on anything before? Hahahaha. I guess I should wear pencil shoes more often. It’s a great ego boost! I got from a friend who got them on Facebook marketplace but I found the same ones on poshmark for $30!

What I’m Doing Next Month:

It’s about to get cold, so I plan to have lots of time snuggled up inside the house with a fire going! We do have quite a bit on a calendar, but things are really slowing down for us with no sports and very few farm animals. We will celebrate Thanksgiving with just our family this year, so it’s going to be a very low-key week, but I’m looking forward to the little break from school! Of course we also have the event that shall not be discussed on Nov 5, and I’m so looking forward to that being over. My only strong opinion is that people need to tone down their strong opinions. Being on social media is like walking through a mine field lately!
