Writing this post always makes me laugh because there are two very distinct ways I could write this post. First, I could list the top hits on my blog this year- which usually includes posts that I wrote YEARS back. I don’t know why some of these posts still gain so much traction, but some of the top ones makes me laugh every year. For example, an ancient post I wrote about getting rid of fleas is usually my top blog post. And then there are posts that I have POURED my heart out in and they get almost no views. Algorithms, I tell you!
In 2022, I published 82 posts and had 22,405 views.
The second way to do it is to compile the top ten blog posts that I ACTUALLY wrote this year.
So just for fun, let’s do both 🙂
Here are the top ten blog posts on my blog that were read this year:
- Disrupting a Placement: The Blog Post I Never Wanted to Write (a post from our foster care days. This post garners a lot of views and quite a few comments, and this is the first year I’ve gotten some rude/controversial comments on it. Honestly this is one of the hardest blog posts I’ve ever written and I’ve never gone back to re-read it)
2. Must Haves for Baby #3 (ironic since I’m now expecting baby #4….4 years later haha)
3. Help! My Kid is in a Cast! (Also from very long ago when Tera broke her arm ice skating)
4. Well, This Was Unexpected… (the post about buying and moving to our homestead!)
5. How to Get Rid of Fleas (without paying for an exterminator) (This post was written over 8 years ago and is a top hit EVERY year. HAHAHAHAHA)
6. I’m a Professional Wedding Guest (Also written a long, long time ago. It’s SUPER fun to take that walk down memory lane! This post hasn’t been updated since 2016, but I hardly go to any weddings anymore)
7. Tips for Saving on Your Grocery Budget (Makes sense why this one came back around again…arg inflation)
8. 10 Fun Challenges to do in 2022 (This was a fun one to write!)
9. How We Do Date Night (and a Marriage Conference Retreat Recap) (I have a controversial opinion about date nights, and I think I even joined a link up for this one, so that makes sense why it has more views than average)
10. On Leaving a Church (oh, yes…because that happened this year, too. And this post barely even covers the briefest of the story, that is still continuing on even to this day).
And the top ten posts that were actually written in 2022:
- Well, This Was Unexpected (moving to our 5 acre homestead!)

2. 10 Fun Challenges to Do in 2022 (This is fun! It must have been shared a few times, hence why it has such high views)

3. How We Do Date Night (and a Marriage Conference Retreat Recap)

4. On Leaving (a) Church (yep, that was a tough decision and I barely touched on the nuance of it in this blog post. It’s still a hard and painful transition that we are going through)
5. The Post in Which I Write About our Life in Law Enforcement (This is another very personal and emotional blog post that was challenging to write. I didn’t get a lot of feedback, but it did apparently garner quite a few views)
6. Friday Favorites (Must have such high views from a link-up! Note to self: do more link-ups in 2023!)
7. What’s Up Wednesday November (see same note above about link-ups)
8. Here Comes Baby #4 (Surprised this one was so low, but I think that most people had already seen my social media announcements and weren’t as interested in the blog post)

9. The Pre-Spring Exhaustion (Honestly no idea how or why this got so many views, but apparently people feel depressed by the end of winter like I do, so I guess it was very relatable?)
10. You Can Simplify Christmas (This one got shared on social media quite a bit, so that is why views are so high!)
As always, thank you to each and every person who has clicked on my blog post, read my words, left comments and encouragements and taken the time to support our family in this small way. Blogging has been so cathartic and a good outlet for me over these years and so many of you have been here for so so long. I know I don’t always respond to comments or know who is reading my words, so I just want to say thank you!
